    D2 Fuel Gauge

The fuel gauge on my V8 D2 is reading low. Is there some common problem causing this, like a sticking float? Does anyone have a good description of how to read the float potentiomet resistance?

mine only moves after 75klm and slowly to the half way mark. But after half way full it drops rapidly.

    D2 Fuel Gauge

my td5 does 400+ before it falls to the full mark then about another 600 before the low fuel light comes on.
mind you, I also have a 130L tank (plus another 33L sill tank if I need it)

I go 200-300 by the time the needle drops to the "F" mark .... then by 1/2 it's around 500-600 .... & I run out of fuel half way between 1/4 & Empty ! (without the low fuel warning light ever coming on )

    ... what's wrong with that ?

    below empty

Mine will keep going for 100ks after the guage hits empty. Comming home across the Nullabour I ran out at Esperence in the BP servo. I drove in motor running filled up and then had to bleed to start no fuel left in line.
Also found something strange when filling up at Bordertown my disco usualy will only take 88 litres from empty. At Border town i filed up 98 litres something fishy going on. I suppose both states dont want to know about it so he gets away with dodgy pumps.

I don't think you are alone on this one... I just choose to live with 'understanding' where its idiosyncrasy is - it has a mind of its own.

In the past I have rectified an inaccurate fuel guage (Subaru Impreza) by removing the float assembly and adjusting the float height by bending the shaft. The potentiometer that reads the tank level was at maximum when the tank was at 3/4 full. After I bent the float shaft the pot was at maximum when the tank was full and read accurately to empty.

I intend to check the Disco float when I get a chance and see what can be done. It will sit at full for some time before it starts to register a lower level.
I suspect my potentiometer needs cleaning as well as it sometimes it does not register full but 3/4 full after filling. The pots can get coated in varnish from the petrol and a light rub with fine wet and dry cleans them up so the work again.
