Well done for trying, people are scared for some reason for adding 2 stroke oil to diesel...

Good to hear you have similar results to me...

On my D2 i am saving around 2L/100km... in the city by just the oil...

the older the diesel is the bigger difference you will feel...

the new diesel engines (common rail) you will find that on cold start up it will be quieter but apart from that there is near no difference... in preformance and fuel economy

You should be using JASO FC 2 Stroke Oil semi synthetic not full synthetic as it doesnt blend well with diesel... (great resutls with Penrite, Valvoline Motorbike Oil, and Castrol) dont use lawn mower 2stroke oil

I'm using Castrol 2T which is for motor bikes and at $40 for 5 litres not cheap given that a tank will need around 450ml.

Interestingly enough, the 200 series V8 diesel also derives benefits from 2 stroke oil and I would have classed that as a newer generation engine even though it's not in the TDV6 league. Given Toyota's strength in 3rd world markets with poor fuel quality perhaps it's not right up there in the technology stakes? Perhaps their V8 diesel is only 1/2 a step ahead of the Td5

Lol I think this is about the third thread in as many weeks about adding oil to diesel. I think the for/against arguments is about 50/50, so I think the only way to figure out whats what is to do as you did - *objectively* run a trial. Placebo effect would be hard to rule out on these sort of trials..... You really need someone to just slip some oil in a few tanks without you knowing and THEN see if there is a difference

I have fuel economy records of every tank I have put in my 300tdi, so I might run a test as well. Follow the sheep I would however avoid the other fad of adding unleaded to diesel..... tho some people swear by that trick too.......

2l/100 seems an incredible saving!!?? If your economy improves 1ltr/100 (even that is a massive saving) using the oil, so about $10 worth of diesel saved per tank, less the cost of 400ml of oil. Maybe saving $5 per tank?? If adding oil has other benefits, lubrication etc, then it may not just be an economic exercise tho...

I thought the V8 diesel cruisers was fill up the oil and check the petrol?

my d2 could never get more than 650km a tank in the city (when the light comes on)

Now in the city i am over 850km a tank....

had the car since new and this is the first time i ever saw 800km on one tank in the city...

Been using 2 stroke in diesel since I read that Mercedes used it, found benefits and published the benefits/results somewhere( I think that there is a link in one of the diesel/2 stroke threads).
Less mechanical noise must mean less mechanical wear in my books.
If you want cheap 2stroke, go to Repco and buy the outboard motor stuff. Its cheaper (about $20 for 5 litres I think aroundabouts).

I have been recording stats a while now and also used an additive off the back of a thread on this site. I put in redline RL2. It costs $30 and uses 1ml per litre. Anyway I 'think' it blows less smoke. I have put quite a few hundred litres through with this stuff and it has not given me any gain. But Mobil diesel consistently gives me a 10% gain. I just filled up with mobil and RL2, I will see if it makes a difference here.

I've been wondering about 2t in diesel LR. I used to run it in my Pajero (97). Did it for about 6 months and had great results quieter, a little more go and around 50-80k more per tank. I have been wanting to try it in my TD5 but was unsure with its injection system whether it would be ok. I would love to give it a go but am worried as to if these engines would take it ok.I used to run chemtec in it but found no improvement.

The TD5 will love it !! Use it now and take note on the whin on ur fuel pump before adding 2T and then after...


Also guys you have to try different brands!!!! I have had different results depending the brand of 2stroke oil it is..
