    Its getting hot in here...!!

I've had a bit of search through the forums, and I'm beginning to get the impression that this "problem" is quite common, but thought I'd check/ask anyway.

Its getting nicely warm here in WA, and while driving around I've noticed that the centre console area is getting VERY hot.
I've checked all the fluid levels etc and all seems fine, but its so bloody warm in the cab I'm sure its affecting my man parts!

Even with the windows down or the aircon on, the centre console area of the cab remains uncomfortably warm.

Is this common, or something I should be getting my mech to check next week during its service?

    Cheers,

strange, Aussieaub. thats what was happening to me on the way home last night, the heat was blowing out of the apperture next to the left ankle without any climate control switched on,disco2 td5 by the way,the whole centre consol was quite warm ,will have to investigate when i get time.

    Think it's normal...
had a deisel and now the V8, and both the same...I'm thinking the heater core lives in there, and the system is such that water runs through the core 100% of the time, and it's the air flow flaps that direct air over the core (to heat) or around the core (to cool)?

Mines same but I thought it was because I've got the V8 so one pipe down either side of the centre console effectively causing the warmth.

Not unusual with the V8, as you have 2 cat converters under the floor and a huge amount of heat is channeled down the trans hump and bulkhead on its way out of the engine compartment. And the heater as mentioned is constantly flowing hot water through it which is right behind the Centre console and the drinks tray.

pretty common problem with later model vehicles that have a full flow heater matrix, i.e. no heater tap in the flow, so the heater matrix is always getting hot water flow. there is a flap in the vent system inside that is supposed to stop hot air from getting into the heater system, but over age the seals leak and the gaps get larger etc. thus hot air comes out even when the heater is turned to cold.
i have considered running a bypass tap system on the heater hoses on my TD5, but haven't gotten there yet.
