    D2 Td5 fuel capacity

    Hi Guys ,

I am driving across the Nullabour again in a couple of weeks to Brisvegas, Double Island Point, Fraser Isl and down to Byron bay for my daughters wedding. Last time I ran very low on fuel and got conflicting pump figures. What is the actual fuel capacity of a standard D2 td5. I am working out consumption at around 10 litres per 100ks not towing my glider and the roof rack is off.

I am taking a bit of a detour up through Tilpa and Louth NSW this cuts a bit of time off and is a great drive beside the Darling River. Estimated fuel to Bris 430 litres at around $600 cost.

I might see some of you up the beach.

    Mike,
I could get 95 liters into my standard tank if I filled it to the brim.
I now have a 130 ltr long ranger tank fitted.

Sorry to hijack this thread - Hey Roger, I'm very interested in the long-ranger tank setup and have a few questions if you don't mind....

    - Did you upgrade rear suspension to account for the additional 130kgs of fuel and the weight of the tanks (Any idea what the tanks weigh?)
    - Does your fuel gauge work accurately after installation?
    - How much of the 130ltr can be used - eg, can you literally run them dry or is there fuel left that cannot be utilised?
    - Are the tanks fully baffled so the handling isn't affected by having full tanks?

Sorry 'bout all the Q's - I've looked at the website and am keen to purchase however, you're the 1st I've known who has them fitted.

    Cheers

Got the 125ltr tank plus the 33tr Aux tank in mine and this is what I found

My suspension doesnt really notice the extra weight, but I do have uprated springs and airbags
The fuel guage stays on full for the first 300ks or so then works as per normal
I ran the car down to 10ltrs left and it was still running when I got to the bowser
The tanks are baffled and never noticed any handling difference.

    Cheers Ean

A 130lt Long range tank does not add 130kg in total weight...the original tank holds near as 100lts, the extra fuel load therefore, is 30lts x density (0.8) = 24kg.
A box of beer weighs as much.
I have a total of 200lts (http://www.longrange.com.au/navtankmodels.html#lrover) so the extra tanks added 80kg to the GVM when full...not worth the worry.

OK so 95 litres it is ,thats a range of 950 kilometers plus I will carry a jerry can 25 litres just in case headwinds etc. I should be able to cover all the dodgy very expensive fuel stops on the Nullabour except at border village.

I wouldn't bank on 950 kms from a 95 litre tank. I have never got 10 km/l from my D2, and have had the fuel light come on early, including at 3 am on a trip and was lucky to find a place open. I tend to get 800 - 850 if I'm not towing.

I would leave more of a safety margin as it could be a long push.

Especially with the winds we get on that run...

Realistic fuel consumption figure would be 12l/100km - this allows for error

I have made it from Norseman to Border village on one tank (towing the glider with roof rack on ) which is 700ks and was on fumes at Border Village.A consumption of 13.5 Litres per 100ks. which sounds about right had the wind from behind which is usual on the way East. I know the wind going the other way can be a pain. In a HJz 75 I was down to 90kph and thought I had engine problems until I stopped and got out for a pee nearly blew me away.

I will calculate on 12 L/100k that way I should not get caught out.
Thinking of dropping in to Yalata for a cast like to pick up one of those giant mullaway that live down that way. The Yalata roadhouse was closed last time so dont know if you still need a permit.
