This double din talk has surfaced before in another thread a while back and no pictures ever showed up!

C'mon we are dying here

Lets see some double din action for the D2

Hi all, Quick question if I may, with regard to the D2 stereo.

Can you change the stereo and keep the steering wheel controls? I have searched and couldnt find anything

its a D2a if that makes any difference?

takdturk and rockstar,

There is some cutting and some very delicate trimming required of the fascia, but the end result is good.

I can't take a photo at present as my vehicle is in having a new engine fitted, but I will see if I can find the pics I took for insurance purposes when the AVN6000 was fitted and post them.

Looks the goods there. Much neater than my poor effort.

I found that changing the headunit gave me better sound quality through my existing speakers too.

HI All

I have just fitted a new Pioneer Head unit to the factory wiring and also changed over the door trims to mach the new leather interior that I am fitting as well.

so I have gone from one speaker in each door to a bass woofer connected to the single wire in the door. I need some treble and mid so do I need a cross over to connect the treble driver or can I just connect it up? and also how can I test the + wire coming out of the door?

Mine was the poverty pack. There was a deal however in 02 for mag wheels (instead of steelies) and an uprated sound system with 6 stack CD under the seat. Now the thing has worked beautifully since new touch wood, and I have not seen the head unit again. Its an audiovox and instead of a knob for volume its got a rocker button. Its a tape player, AM/FM and stacker controller in one. Single Din of course and really good sound quality. I would like to go double din combined, GPS, input for my iphone, and CD controller in one (although I am happy I think to lose the stacker given its all on the iphone and ipod.

Any suggestions as to the better quality double dins that fit the bill? How does yours go Grum?

I am very happy with it, but it does have limitations.

I use it for sound, with the main input now from the Ipod, although it also has a stacker under the seat. My D2 was a base model, but once I fitted A pillar speakers, the sound is quite acceptable to me.

The phone works fine through it using a separate Parrot Bluetooth system

The rear view camera function is excellent.

The DVD player function is good, but rarely used.

The GPS does what I mostly want it to do, but the limitations are:

1. it only takes Where-Is mapping: no topographic maps

2. there is no speed function, so time to waypoint is only based on user pre-set speeds for city, suburbs and highways

3. once you get off the major routes, the non-adjustable de-clutter function removes even the road on which you are travelling unless you hunt through the scales to find one which will show it, which might not be the most appropriate.

4. The POI data base seems to be very limited compared with many portable units I have seen.

5. When travelling across borders, the POI data base search area has to be manually reset as the GPS doesn't seem to be able to tell itself where it is.

Despite these limitations, which probably stem from it being a first generation design, it does the main jobs we bought it for very well.

I understand they are no longer in production, and our local stereo shop cleared the last of them a couple of months ago at a giveaway price of around $1700.

There was a Pioneer unit released just after I got my AVN6000, which looked pretty good, but if I was buying again now, I would first look hard at the VMS in order to get the topo mapping, but I haven't bothered to look at it in detail yet.
