So yes in his case running with only TC .... TC is crap

TC with CDL / Locker etc isn't!!!!

However I as many other have found TC does cause issues in Sand and other mediums...

And if it wasn't Crap as was, there wouldn't have been a Landy owning uproar about No CDL and a re think for the later models...

And AMV, Ashcrofts and a multitude of others wouldn't have gone out of their way to provide something....

But thats just my thoughts...

You are entitled to your opinion of course but I and many others would not go as far as to say TC with no CDL is crap. I dont know how I survived for 7 years in my D2 without CDL - heavy off road scrabbling, towing 2 tonn through DEEP SOFT sand, doing fraser in the dry (after months of no rain) and having to stop in the boggiest section of Indian Head pass to wait for cars to be snatched out and then starting off from stationary and driving through where they were bogged etc etc)....ETC is an excellent bit of kit. Having CDL makes the vehicle better and gives piece of mind if an axle gets shot or the ABS module goes out to lunch, but Crap...no. If you found it crap then either it was faulty (air or old fluid in the system and not having the brake lines and shuttle valves flushed every 40k will do that) or you were not driving the TC like it was meant to - it only works with constant or increasing throttle, any backing off and its history and you have to start again by powering on.

I got my CDL fitted (new output housing!) a year ago. It is certainly better, but I could survive without it quite well frankly.

Interesting and informative response... Will need to do a flush and check those valves - just in case.... But if it were all it were cracked up to be there would be an extra wedge of cash in some 90+% of Disco owners who disagree with their landy being able to do landy things with just TC.....

Interstingly on a by note all our performance 'works' vehicles had a TC disable over ride retro fitted....

And no little acknowledgement to that same fact by Landy reinstating the CDL in the later models....

On a side note for anyone else who feels they have wasted their cash....

I and a couple of others would be interest in some Lockers... And the original poster a CDL...

CDL is FAR from a waste of cash. Money well spent for a variety of reasons. ETC by itself is not crap, but that does not mean CDL fitment is a waste of cash - I can comment because I required a whole replacement output housing and internals. Not cheap, but worth it. It does help starting off in deep sand, it does help in heavier off road use, especially hill climbing and it does help on high speed dirt/gravel. I think my above post speaks for itself. It was optional in the UK but stock here when re-introduced in the D2a - slip slop slap, diff lock is back.

Of course if you are after lockers then CDL must be installed.

As for flushing, there have been several reports of lack lustre ETC cured by a flush and replacement of fluid and keeping the braking system up to spec...makes sense to me too.

Sorry couldn't help myself that was basically a fishing trip and I guess I reeled a big one in

What I was getting at as per original posters request...

Get a CDL.... Whatever words you wish to use...... or me not to....TC is not the be all and end all.... You will get out of stuff... or get through stuff that otherwise you would have been stuck or really struggling to get through with just TC...
