Yes, it's possible. It's not really designed to take too much load so I would not leave it in Park either.

If your handbrake is weak, secure the winching car to a tree.

Neutral with park brake is preferrable, the parking pawl pin is not very strong.

the intent of the suggestion of not having the selector in 'park' is correct, it is a bad idea, but there is no 'pin' in your gearbox.
having it in 'park' may load the lock if you let the brake off, but in your box, it is unlikely to damage it, but be aware that if you did have it in park, it would require some force possibly to release it if still loaded with the weight of the recovered vehicle.

I have been told that when winching the auto gear box should NOT be in the park position as it can cause damage to the "pin" that locks the transmission. I find this hard to believe but cannot get a positive answer from even the dealers. Grateful for any information.
