Thread: How many km's has your fuel pump done

Hi all,best not to let the tank go under a 1/4 as the fuel helps cool the pump.On a side note ,if your using bio-diesel blends,it's a good idea to use a fuel oxidation treatment to stop "dropout" in the fuel which can stick the pumps low pressure ceramic discs together.Genuine fuel filters are a must if using high rates of bio-diesel.....its a long story

I have replaced many at 100 to 150K, but some I have seen top 300K

I still reckon 150k is a good interval, beats towing it one day unexpectedly, they don't usually give any obvious warnings.

I forgot to mention,i've used "Chemtech Diesel Power" for a few years now and it works on oxidation and is also a fungacide.You can buy it in 5L bottles which is much cheaper in the long run!

Mine was changed at 230,000ks, not because it failed though, I had a new pump and longrange tank fitted and it was part of the change under an insurance claim.

I think it's in another TD5 and still going strong.

182k km pump ok, plastic fuel line wore through and has been replaced.

167k in an 02 V8 and no noise. 285,000K in a V8 D1 and still going, albeit a bit noisy. But been noisy for the last 140,000k....

I would have thought if you are going to carry a spare at below 200,000k if its quiet, you would want to carry some other spares too...like a crank position sensor amongst other things (unless you replace your coil packs on the V8 at regular intervals it may leave you with running on a cyl or 2 less than what you might like; leads can fail - although leads usually die slowly and you can get them anywhere).
