    What does this mean

    Gday All,

I haven't been happy with the D2 for the last few days, at about 2000 rpm it seem to sound off tune/ balance but is ok below that and above about 2100.

I hooked up the Nanocom in Istrument mode and it reads 4 things
Trip .. I assume trip meter
    RPM
    CT,..I assume Coolant Temp
    BT...I assume Boost?

My boost pressure doesnt seem to change much, its at about 13.8 at idle and doesnt go much above 14.

I can hear the turbo and im not blowing tons of smoke, so is it im reading Nanocom wrong?
Or am I looking for a turbo related problem..Wastegate? boost modulater?

    Thanks in advance,

    Cheers Ean

Check the turbo hoses too. Could be one starting to go.

    Hi Ean
That figure is totaly normal, that would be your voltage
Instrument mode displays RPM,Coolant temp(the true figure the ECU uses, not the modified dash display) Voltage and Boost(in Bar).
Have a drive and see.Boost will peak at around 1.35 bar depending on wastegate adjustment, much over 1.35 and you start the get overboost.

Ok thanks andrew, I think my Turbo is not playing the game, I tryed to spin the blades today whilst doing afew other jobs and it doesn't spin very well, seems very tight, I cant hear any bearing noise and there is no pitting of the blades..

    Maybe thats how they are..

    What is it doing Ean???
    No power???
Disconnect the pressure pipe where it meets the wastegate(small diameter rubber tube)and go for a run.
You should overboost the motor(feels like a petrol motor miss-firing) and if you push it too much will go into limp home(reduced power,re-start to cancel).
If it feels like you now have power again, the Turbo modulator is stuffed(its between the hose you disconnected and the metal intercooler in pipe).
If it made no difference you need to see if the wastegate is stuck open.
How many bar is the Nanocom showing for boost???

Ean, Like Andy says try the boost modulator trick, also, Nanocom should give you Kg/hr of airflow? If so it should be 50 to 60 at warm idle, stabilised after 1 minute, and you should see 550+ under hard acceleration. If not, the suspect MAF.

    Thanks Andrew,

At 2000rpm the car just doesn't sound right, almost like its rumming with something out of balance, I did have 1 engine mount that looked colapsed, so replaced that and still the same.
If powers on from 2000rpm no worries, but even when I back off and go down thru the 2000rpm range I can hear it.
I done all the brake stoday and 1 from caliper was seized, so freed it up and still hear it at 2000rpm.

I just took the car for a drive and it gets to 1.17b on the boost on Nanocom,I dont think the Turbo is the problem now.

I tested the Viscious fan when I got home, and it wont stop once up to temp, but the fan looks as tho the bearing is on its way out. When I stopped the car I grabbed the fan hub and there is a fair bit of play, so am thinking it could be the fan getting out of balance at 2000rpm then settling down.

The car rev's and powers as per normal its just sounding very different at 2000 rpm than normal.

    Cheers Ean

    Hi Ean
Have you ever tuned your wastegate????
You can do alot better than 1.17 bar You have a HEAP more performance waiting to be released.
Very simple job, increase the length of the acuator rod a small amount at a time till you get to about 1.35 bar under full load.(aprox 3psi more than you have)
Im sure you will be impressed with the results

For your other issue, check the exhaust, may be something simple!!!!
    ENJOY

    Thanks Andrew,

But what do you call full load, I only reved the engine to about 4000, but after about 3700 the boost settled to 1.16 so am assuming full load is about 3700rpm area in 2nd & 3rd gear.
    Mine is a 5 speed.

When you say the exhuast. do you mean loose.
The noise is not a rattle its a mechanical noise, which im sure seems to be a bearing or something that runs out of true at that rev range, thats why my first thoughts were thats when the turbo really comes on song.

Will pull the viscous fan tommorrow and check the bearing.
Will drive the car with the wastegate hose off and see how it goes.

    Cheers Ean
