Thread: Cleaned out my blower fan

Just did mine to, There was another thread on here recently about noisy fans so after reading both threads I decided to investigate why my fan was running really rough on the top 2 speeds.

I didnt even have to pull it right out, just removed the kick panle and glovebox was enough for me to feel inside the blower and rotate th blades until I discovered a large bit of foam insulation easily removed with fingers. Gave everything a clean out with compressed air and reasembled, works perfectly now!

Thanks to both of the posts one more prob solved. Think the faom insulation might be a common problem?

Sort of related problem.

Could this problem cause external air being wooshed into the passenger side footwell?

Reason being, my Disco seems to have a problem in that the passenger's feet seem to get a draft of air that is at external temperature - rather disconcerting when your at the snow or outback on 45c day! It varies with road speed (it blast of air is bigger the faster we travel)

Buggered if I know where it's coming from !

N ot sure, but I did have some leaves in the fan, so it must be able to get external air into it.
Take the glovebox out and have a look, its easy to remove, 4 bolts under the bottom lip, you may be able to see where its coming from.

Ours isn't noisy...it just squeaks...and squeaks, and squeaks

A little oil on the bearings helped for a few days, but then its started again.

I agree with the cleanup...a few leaves and other items in there....but if anyone has managed to overcome a squeaky fan please do tell.

Sounds like a blend motor/flap issue.The heater runs all the time,the ECU in the HEVAC unit opens a flap to blend hot air with aircon air to meet the target temp.

Nealo if you take the blower out you will see that the rim of the blades are recessed and these fit snugly in the housing. I think after a while the bearings loosen and the squeaking is where the rim starts to rub against the housing. With a very sharp knife you can carefully trim the recess to give more clearance and stop the squeak.

Have you all checked the external air intake?

This is under the Exterior Windscreen Cowl, and has a foam filter fitted this foam filter rots and eventually does not seal properly allowing leaves, and bits of foam to fall in to the Air Blower and then the vents.

I have just discovered this on my Disco, and have disassembled it all, busy sourcing a new filter and will install.
