    Disco 2004 bullbar $ 2100 realistic price?

After a very minor accident shattered the factory bumper, we want to put a bullbar on instead of replacing a new plastic bumper.

After reading several posts here we looked at:
    - TJM type 15 steel (no longer delivered)
    - ARB Deluxe winchbar black $1850 fitted ex GST ... color adds $ 220
    - ECB Alloy silver hammer color $2104 fitted ex GST

As we are never had bullbar ...
    - are these prices realistic?
    - any pointers to dealers in North Brisbane?

    Hi Pete,

I was looking at this a while ago, and found similiar figures.

Not much choice around for the D2.
And the D2a is a little different in the mounts as well from the D2

    I think a standard ARB is a around 1600.
While a got around $2200 for the ecb alloy.

$2200 puts me off, but I woulod like the protection.
Even a ecb nudge is $800 installed, which seems steep for a nudge.
But I havent found any other options, unles u want comp winch bar style.

    Thanks Rusty,
the quotes were higher then I expected but apparently bullbars if you got similar quotes they probably are that expensive. Quite an amount compared to the value of the car.
Fortunately our insurance is bringing some $ to the party if we don't go for a smash
We will drop in 2 shops today to see how the bars look in real life. repair.

I found most places will not have them in stock, so it was hard to actually see any.

Ususally they need to wait until th enxt batch is made which may be months away, or when enough interest is generated.

the 2a versions are even harder to get as there are less around.

I think it is a fair price as these are not cheap to design and get ADR approval. Years ago a fence gate on your series was the normal thing. Now days it has to look good. Look factory and be crash tested and compliant. So I think $2000 is ok. It's not a simple piece of pipe and steel plate. Labour is not cheap in Australia. And yes arb bars are made here.

I purchased the ARB deluxe winch bar for my D2 about 9 months ago and paid $1850 fitted, looks like your quotes are on the mark.

I know they need to go thru a lot of RnD for compliance etc.

I was mainly referring to the difference between ECB and standard ARB cost. There is a big gap between the 2.

The ARB prices a fairly similiar across all vechicles.

    Dropped in two shops today.

Our Disco TD5 is mainly used by the wife to tow the horse float. We don't expect much 'real off road' use. We think the car looks still too nice to scratch it
As we don't see any use for a winch we decided to go for an Alloy bar (BTW the shops advised us that with a steel bar we should consider to upgrade the front suspension).
We also thought the ECB alloy looked a bit better then the ARB steel.
As we have a lightgrey Disco we will opt for a bar in the 'black ripple color' . The shiny polished bar color looked good in the shop but we think it is too much trouble keeping it clean.

The 2 quotes we got for an ECB Alloy in black ripple color were $2100 and $1900.

I realy like the ARB Sahara bar, I would love one of these. Looks a treat colour coded on a D2a!!.
Ah well, keep dreaming of damaging the stock plastic bumper so I could justify one to SWMBO.
    Regards
    Robbo.
