Question D2 Rear Reverse Lights Problem

    Hi guys,

Just the other day when reversing from the local carpark my Disco had a close encounter with a pedestrian. After a brief apology from my behalf the lady said my reverse light are not working, I thanked her for the heads up.
Sure enough my reverse lights are not working, I have checked the fuse and also the globes and still can't work out why they are not lighting up.

I have used this site a number of times for Disco information and always get positive freindly responses. I really appreciate any help I can get.

    Thank you

Hi mate, get one of the RAVE cd-rom's from the Shop link above.

They are about $15 from memory and the money supports this forum.

The REALLY GOOD bit is they have heaps of info on your car.
    -the official service manual
    -all electrical diagrams
    -and more....!!!

Your issue could be a broken wire or a bad ground connection or the switch that turns on when you engage reverse could be stuffed.

If you get a cheap multimeter from supercheap etc you can test things and work it out.

    Goodluck

Try this to help know where to look.
Turn on your windscreen wipers, ye I know but it'll make sence.
With the wipers working engage reverse.
This should start the rear window wiper.
By doing this you will know if your wiring through the "xyz" switch is OK.

Also check that the bulbs are touching the contacts and there is no gunk on them.
I have seen a green build up on the contacts a few times.
You could swap globes from one of the other sockets to test the globe.

    Happy hunting
    Cheers, Kyle

Grrrrr... This is one of those jobs that can be frustrating!

    All good suggestions above.

Did you just check the bulbs or replace them with new ones? If you've just checked them, I'd suggest replacing them as a start. Sometimes blown bulbs can still look complete and on top of that it's a good cheap place to start. From there I'd double check and or replace the fuse and if all ok there go onto the switch at the transmission lever end of town.
That was a great tip about the windscreen wiper test!!

A cheap multimeter from autobarn or bunnings is a great idea and can be used so often. I love my multimeter.

    Good luck!
