    Aircon U/S

Driving across Eyre Peninsula the aircon gave out. Blowers working compressor seems to be kicking in when switched on . Was great the day before. No sign of hose blowing. The auto button on the aircon control does not turn off now only says temp and fan. Before it used to dissapear. Had it chipped in Adelaide but it was working after that so cant see that having any affect.
It seems to be a very sudden failure which makes me think its electrical rater than gas. Any ideas anyone ?

The HEVAC unit has a self test.
It will list the faults it finds,if you have RAVE it tells you how to do it.
    Will check mine and post.

    AIR CONDITIONING
    DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION 82-21
    Diagnostics
The ATC ECU performs a diagnostic check each time the ignition is switched on. To avoid nuisance fault indications
at low light levels, the sunlight sensor is omitted from the diagnostic check. If a fault is detected, the audible warning
sounds three times and the AUTO window on the control panel display flashes for 20 seconds. The ATC ECU then
reverts to normal control but uses a default value or strategy for the detected fault. Faults are identified by performing
a manual diagnostic check of the system.
A manual diagnostic check includes a check of the sunlight sensor, and is initiated by pressing and holding the AUTO
switch and the air distribution switch, then turning the ignition switch from off to on. The audible warning sounds once
and the indications on the control panel display illuminate. FC is shown in the LH temperature window and the results
of the check are shown as a two digit fault code in the RH temperature window. If a fault is detected, the audible
warning sounds three times and the AUTO window on the display flashes on and off for 20 seconds. If more than one
fault is detected, the fault codes cycle in numerical order, at 1 Hz. The audible warning sounds as each fault code is
shown. In low light conditions, to avoid false sunlight sensor fault indications, the sunlight sensor should be illuminated
    with a strong light source.

    No fault 00

    Hi Andy,

I gave it a go and it comes up 00 no fault. I can induce sunlight sensor by putting my hand over the little knob on the dash to give code 21/22. So it is going through the full check. It doesnt seem to check gas levels so that may be it.

I recently help a friend replace his D2's compressor. The system was working but the compressor made a "terminal" sounding noise. After it was regassed the compressor would not engage. Checked the fuses and relay OK. The compressor would engage (and cold air was produced) if the magnetic clutch was "jumped" from the battery.
Did the self test on the Air Temperature Control ECU with no faults displayed. Then swapped his ECU into my vehicle - my compressor would not engage. Put my ECU into his vehicle - his system worked.

Diagnosis - faulty Air Temperature Control ECU
Lesson - the Air Temperature Control ECU self test does not find all faults.

    Cheers

    No Gas

I just had the aircon man around to have a look. No Gas and a hole in my condenser . A new condenser is very expensive but managed to track one down from the wreckers . I will now spend Australia day fitting it .

Looks fairly straight forward on the Rave CD is there any hidden problems I need to know about. I have a bullbar so may ned to remove that first.

    Fitting condensor

    Hi all,

To end this I fitted a new condensor (second hand). This is a time consuming exercise although not difficult but involves removing bullbar etc. The instructions can be found in Fitting accessories Aircon on the Rave CD. The mobile air man came to my house recharged the gas and its all good again. The hole appears to have come from a rock thrown up through a gap where my inner plastic mudguard was worn away. Time to do the whole job around 8 hrs which includes painting bits and pieces before replacing. I am glad i didnt have to pay someone to do it. You dont realise how good that aircon is until its gone.

    Mike
