LAND ROVER DISCOVERY ES V8 2001

    LAND ROVER DISCOVERY ES V8 (4x4) - Ringwood - VIC - $ 20,990.00

how does this deal seem to you for this vehicle?

how does the es differ from the se and other discovery models of this year?

i see many later model landrovers that are cheaper and wonder why?

You might put this in the Discovery 2 section rather in the D3/D4/RRS section. You might get more relevant responses.

    Personally I would have thought $21000 for a V8 D2 was a bit too much - a good TD5 maybe but not a V8.

Probably a nice car but is too dear. No.2 son bought a 2004 D2a diesel with essentially the same spec for $25K.

In the market for V8 or TD5? I reckon there is better value around than this one.

I'd have thought about $16K if everything was absolutely perfect, particularly 01 V8.

    Trade - about $12K.

    thanks pete.

if i wanted to make a deal with this dealer and settle for a lower price, where are some good web links where i can obtain similar deals for the same vehicle at value / trade prices?

Any issues with this vehicle that i jneed to be aware of?

how does this 2001 ES compare to some of these different models on this link?

Remember, something is only worth what somebody wants to pay for it.

I do also think its a bit high but hey, if it ticks all the boxes so be it.
01 is the model where there is no centre diff lock fitted, V8 is thirsty and ES has all the fruit much like a HSE for 03/04 models.More to go wrong also, remember they are 10 years old now.

Whatever you do or look at, get a Land Rover specialist check it out and if not already fitted, fit a low coolant alarm.

    Hi guys,

My first post on this great forum. I thought I would weigh in on the topic as this is the same model I bought about 12 months ago.

I paid $21,000 for an immaculate Oslo Blue 2001 ES V8 with 138,000k.

I would say the one you are interested in is in even better nick. If you love it, I would say go for it but with some caveats. They are amazing to drive and still turn heads, even after 10+ years on the road. That one has the optional twin-sunroofs, rear air-con and mondial wheels which look horn. And its in black!

Get it checked out by a reputable Land Rover specialist. Ritter for example. They are a great bunch and should be able to point out anything major that's wrong. I do notice the SRS light is stuck on which should be rectified before you buy it.

At its age, some things that may cost you some money:

    - Leaking head gaskets $$$$$ - Some are prone to leak oil $3500 repair
    - Dead Mass-air flow sensor $$ - Apparently they all die over 100k
    - Front propeller shaft rebuild $$$ - Its only a matter of time! $800 replacement, rebuild much cheaper. The more offroad work your Disco has done, the quicker they go bang. Prevention is definitely better than cure here.

Some useful information that may assist you in choosing:

    - The MY01 introduced the high-compression V8 engine as standard. This results in a little extra power and torque and the requirement for 95+ RON fuel.
    - The MY01 omitted the center-diff lock altogether. Only a problem if you are considering serious offroading, otherwise I have found the traction control pretty good on semi-serious terrain. Most would argue the center-diff omission was sacrilege!
    - The MY01 dropped the impressive 320w Harman/Kardon speakers and amplifier in the ES as standard and replaced it with a much less exciting 220w Philips/Lear system (same Alpine head unit). It may have been an option however but there is a massive difference in sound quality. You will notice the speaker on the top of the front door trims (the mid-range) is missing the 'Harman/Kardon' logo. I have since upgraded it to the HK system
    - Woodgrain trim on the doors was also dropped as a standard fitting on the MY01 ES. Probably another tick box option!
    - The MY01 had a few minor suspension tweaks and improvements over the MY00.5 but nothing to write home about.

If you become madly obsessed like others, you should source RAVE and maybe even Microcat, which is software to help you pull apart and source part numbers for your pride and joy. You will form a good relationship with your local spare parts interpreter also.

    Enjoy!

I'd sell mine for that price if the time was right, and it's got slightly less kms and is a 2003 SE V8 (very good condition, full service history, never off road etc). Mine is also black with the leather alpaca interior, almost identical to the one up for sale but looks much better .

So there you go " I can get a 2003 for that price" is all you need to say. Offer $16k and then still get it checked over.

    Regards
    Andrew

many thanks for your interesting replies.

we currently have the green '95 Disco V8 S1, and the wife wants to upgrade (albeit a little step), as our vehicle is looking a little tired, but still runs good IMO, without any major expensive hiccups since we have had it (since 2001).

She wants to use our new upgrade (whatever that may be) to mainly retain the image thing amongst her peers, but also is worried about the age and the kms we are racking up on our '95 model (around 230k) - I'm not worried though :-).

Anyway, why do i see some es models without these sun roofs and leather interior? What happened in 2001 when different variations of the ES came out? What does ES stand for?

I don't think we'll be doing and serious offroad stuff, and i don't know what advantages the centre diff lock can give. Please tell.

the dealer said that a singaporian father drove it to cart his kids to and from school and did not use it much (probably never seen dirt) - he may well be telling the truth, but i guess i take any thing a dealer says with a grain of salt...

are these optional extras worth the extra coin : twin sunroofs, rear air-con, mondial wheels and black duco ?

Is'nt the black colour too hot? I live in Perth, where it never rains and is always sunny and hot. Will this colour / vehicle still be ok in this climate?

and,, $3,500 to repair leaky head gaskets - Why so much???

how does this es model compare to the one in black?
