    Question D2 liners? Models?

Hi all, my D2 1999 dual fuel is currently in the shop having a new short motor fitted, due in part to slipped liners. Now my wife break the news to me that she wants her own Discovery.....but I can't afford a repeat effort and given my luck and the odds of 70% likelihood future slipped liners..... Well here is my question.....did LR ever fix the production problems leading the these slipped liners? If so from which model onwards? Is there a model with tophead liners fitted as standard?

I am under the impression that the old 3.5 litre V8 never had the slipped liner issue but that all the 3.9 litre, the 4 and 4.6 litre engines were susceptible to this with the 3.9 being perhaps being not quite as prone to the problem.

Anecdotaly the problem seems to follow an over heating problem. And that overheating results from a cooling system failure. Cooling system maintenance might be the key here. So perhaps regular coolant changes and a new cooling fan viscous hub and a radiator rodding may be recommended at intervals of say every 100,000 kays.

Words of widom - manage the cause. Makes sense. The first thing I do when my motor is rebuilt is to fit an engine saver alarm.

Another question if you don't mind - is there a tell tail way of knowing if the cooling system has not been treated well and hence the potential for a slipped liner is real? Or is it a case of only looking a doscovery's with well documented service records driven by little old ladies?

I don't see how you can tell visually if the cooling system has been serviced/maintained/refurbished or not except for a documented [ie receipts for work done] history. And normal by the book vehicle servicing doesn't cover anything except for coolant changes and flushing - and that is just not good enough in my opinion.
