    New Windscreen

I have looked back through older posts and have noticed people having issues with non-genuine windscreens being fiited.

I have a stone chip and crack around the size of a 50c piece and require a new screen.

Can anyone give me some directions on where to get genuine glass from and a possible price.

I have been quoted around $740 fitted for non-genuine by Obrien Glass.

I have spoken to my insurance company "Allianz" and I have full windscreen cover with no excess and as a genuine screen is currently fitted I can request a genuine screen for the replacement.

So the claim has been organised with Obrien and I am waiting on a call back to organise a time depending on when they can get the genuine glass I guess.

No idea on how much a genuine screen will cost them but luckily the insurance is paying.

I need to take it in to them though for the work, as bonnet removal etc. is required.

I have had my Windscreen replaced twice under Insurance and in both cases the bonnet was never removed. In fact both times they came and did the repair at my place. You should ask if they can do the same.

Big difference in glass quality. You can scrub a genuine screen with scotchbrite to get the bugs off but do it with an aftermarket one and it will scratch...been there, still looking through scratches.

As a matter of interest, what proof does the insurance company require of windscreen breakage in order for them to pay for a replacement? How bad does the break have to be.

I've never had one replaced but mine does have a barely perceptible crack through the driver's side vison area.

My windscreen had two very minor stone chips. My Insurer directed me to their approved repairer to be fixed. They had a quick look and said we will just replace the whole thing. Probably more $$ in their pocket from the Insurance Company than a stone chip repair.

Im now on my 4th screen in this car , and can def say 100% remove the bonnet as it makes it much easier to remove the intake plenum assy etc without breaking it.
Bonnet takes less than 5 mins to remove and weighs nothing tbh.

Also make sure they order a NEW top finisher seal, it MUST be replaced when a new srceen is fitted, "some" fitters / companies witll try to get away with not doing it, but it should be renewed and fitted to the new glass BEFORE it goes into the vehicle.

When I spoke to the repairer I was informed that a chip less than the size of a 5c piece on the drivers side can be repaired as long as not in the direct line of vision. A chip less than a $1 coin on the passenger side can be fixed.

Anything over this and a new windscreen is in order. With mine, once you include the cracks coming out from the chip you are around the size of a 50c coin.

I will definetely be talking to the repairer before hand to find out exactly what they are going to do, I will also ask for reciepts for parts purchased etc. for my records.
