    Intermittent squeak

    Hi all,

I had a new and exciting squeak surface on the weekend. It's quite loud.

I know that my idler pulley is due for replacement as this occasionally squeaks, but the idler pulley squeaks in time with the engine revolutions. This new squeak is not dependent on engine revs.

I narrowed it down to appearing only when the air conditioner is switched on. It starts off as a low and slow squeak, get a little louder and a little faster and then cuts off, so it leads me to believe it's something to do with the a/c compressor?

The strange thing is that it doesn't do it all the time either.

I've not opened the bonnet and tried to replicate it at idle yet as I haven't had time, but wanted to get your input first.

    Cheers,
    Chris

    A/C clutch bearing.

There's a You Tube on it floating around here, very easy to change.

Maybe its in the Good Oil

They all turn together as part of the serpentine belt configuration, I did this with mine last night cause it sounds like I've got a supercharger
Draw a diagram of the belt config,Take the belt off, make sure it's clear, hit the key for a couple of seconds & see if the noise disappears, if it does, it's not the actual motor, it'll be either a pulley, alternator, pump etc, even try some dry lube, it may just be that when air con is on, the motor is working slightly harder creating the sound from the belt itself?
