    whistle on acceleration

Just noticed recently a whistle coming from under the bonnet occasionally when i am accelerating. I am almost due for my 200k service, but wondered if i should be concerned?

    Cheers

    Hi Moggly73
If you have a TD5 you might want to check your exhaust manifold studs, they have a problem where the manifold warps and snaps studs (usually at the ends) giving off a whisling type noise

If its diesel, check intercooler hoses clamps are tight or hose may have pin hole or split.

would both of these account for recent poor fuel consumption? (around 14.5l/100). I have had 245/75 bighorns since october.

Not really, shouldn't affect it by that much, I've had both broken studs and loose hoses and did not notice any increase in fuel economy, is yours manual or auto.

I would check your manifold stud, more than likely that's the whistle your hearing.

It's an auto, but never really had great economy. I read on here of people getting 10's and 11's, so mine seems bad by comparison. I guess i need to check the usual air filter, fuel filter, hoses etc.

As for the studs, i'll give it a look this weekend, Thanks

I once had whistling caused by a split in the turbo inlet hose. It was on the bottom so hard to find.
