I had also read this as well I think on the RAVE CD. The D1 had aluminium door skins but they changed to steel to get smaller panel gaps.

If the person reversed into you then tell them how much the quotes are if they don't want to go through insurance, give them a time limit to respond to the quotes and if no satisfaction then inform your insurance company with their details, they will handle the rest. I reckon the people will want to use their insurance because most peoples excess's should be under $750 unless they are young eg 18-25. You should not need to be chasing up wreckers for parts unless you want to fix it cheaply eg your fault or you don't have their details. I agree with others that front wing will need replacing, and front indicators are expensive especially genuine which you should make sure the panel beaters use.
    Cheers Matt

Thanks Matt... have communicated to him quotes to replace / repair as well as a used panel & indicator lamp from TRS. I think a week has been pretty fair IMO and nothing has transpired from his end other than alot of saying he will call me back when I have had to do the leg work and chase him.

I have his business card, name etc and it was his work vehicle. He did mention that he didn't want to go through insurance but he has left me no choice now. So insurance it will be.

Thanks for the pointer on the indicator lamp.

If the insurer wants to repair the panel should I insist on it being replaced for reasons mentioned within this thread??

I've now noticed a new noise coming from the front which may be vibration noise but will have to get them to look into it as well as the wiring as the indicator lamp wasn't working but now it is and def don't want an intermittent electrical problem. Oh the joys!

    Thanks :-D

I can't see that repairing the front wing would be economically viable for a panel beater compared to replacing with new or possibly second hand. Go the insurance route and definately check the completed work, I recently had a lot of work done on my disco due to hail damage, and I have had to take it back a couple of times. Your repairs look straight forward so shouldn't present any problems, my disco required roof, bonnet and all panels needed some panel beating so with all that work there will always be problems eg. trims missing, fittings damaged. Good luck with it all.

Thanks everyone for your input and replies about the best method for repairs/replacement etc.

I will be drawing up a letter providing him with 14 days to resolve the matter - if not resolved then yep, will be getting insurance involved.

So far he has been full of ...sh.. it !!!

    Cheers,

Hi everyone, thanks again for all the replies. Great news!!! He has finally paid for the panel/indicator lens so I should expect them at the door either Thursday or Friday. Looks like I have a long list of work to do on Saturday, which I don't mind if it means getting her back on the road :-D...

Just a quick question while I'm on this topic... does anyone have any tips / pointers on removing/installing the panel/indicator lamp? F/RHS... that they'd care to share?

    Cheers,
    Lp
