ARB compressor, where to put it?

hi all, has anyone put a compressor behind the rear storage compartment in the corner before? my main concern would be how hot they get, but it's a nice dry out of the way place and its close to the vent there as well.any feedback appretiated.tony

    Yep! I have.

I does get warm in there, but no hotter than under the bonnet (my alternative location) or under the passenger seat.

Yep me to, thats where my ARB comp lives. There is just enough room to fit it in, it needs to be "set" right on its bracket etc, but its out the way and protected from the elements.

Mount the compressor behind the rear left panel.
But.........Go to Jaycar or similar and buy a 12 volt computer fan.
Mount the fan to get optimum airflow over the compressor and you will not have any overheating problems.

Wire the fan directly to the compressor motor so they run together.

I mounted a ARB compressor in the engine compartment of a D2 V8 and heat shielded it.

Had to move it to the rear cabin to prevent meltdown.

My concern about this approach is about the compressor being mounted "vertically", as opposed to "horizontally". This assumes that the sump is wet, and that mounting it in this way will cause issues for the bearings, and for oil in the rings.

    Am I wrong?

Yes. The unit is designed to be fitted at almost any angle, even upside down.......but not inside out!
Mine is fitted in my spare 2nd battery tray in the engine comp and have no issues with overheating.
The unit is also advertised as dust proof, and to a degree, water proof.

    Cracking little unit, love mine!

Well mine is located in the tray for the SLS compressor... I don't have SLS.
The ARB WILL work under water (proved it many times) as long as it gets clean air. The air for mine comes from the Air filter box after the filter. It is housed in an aluminium box for protection from the general elements just to be sure.

    No probs .
Check out items numbered 2, 5 and 8 on that page link.
I'm pretty sure there is additional information on the enclosed fitting instructions too about rotation and orientation of fitting the unit, but alas I no longer have the instructions to show you.

    Cheers.
