Parked at home tonight and went out later just on dark to find a puddle of coolant under the car.
After much swearing, I found it's dripping down roughly under the turbo. It's pooling on the edge of the engine block on the ledge just in front of the bell housing.
But in the gloom I couldn't find any coolant hoses that are leaking in the area. They all seem clean, but obviously I've missed the culprit.
Does anyone have any likely candidates? Hose or gasket?

more than likely its the secret cooling hose that no-one knows about.
ring MR automotive and tell them that Dave said to order the MY03 secret cooling hose that no-one knows lives under the turbo and they will send you the right bit to replace it.
remove the acoustic cover
remove the turbo heat shield
look just under the #4 exhaust port about 6 inches down from the manifold where the pipe bends back in from between the firewall and the block just above the bell housing.
is about 3 inches long and it goes from about 1/2"ID to 3/4"ID. bet its never been replaced. I do about 2 a year on the side of the road, usually for people who have a low coolant indicator, good noses, great mechanical sympathy or all of the previous.
you do have an engine saver alarm right?

There is a small hose up behind the turbo. You have to remove the heat shield from the turbo to replace it(I found this the easiest way). I just replaced the thing about a month ago. Easy to do with patience.
While you're at it, consider doing every hose. If that one is leaking then there is a good chance others are already or about to.

I'll check when I get home tonight, but it sounds like the culprit... I was lucky, there's still coolant in the reservoir, it's only dropped about an inch and I reckon most of it spilt on the drive at home. I didn't notice anything driving home.
Co-incidentally I had just ordered a full set of hoses and other parts from the UK and they shipped yesterday! I was intending to replace all the hoses and keep the current ones as spares.
As for the coolant alarm, I have been away but I am looking at the Madman EMS 1 with all the fruit, but waiting for stock...! It's moved slightly higher up the priority list now.

It was the hose cap that had split. Pic below. Now to try and work out the part name and number.
Bob, as for the order, it was from Rimmer Brothers - Triumph Car Parts, MG Rover Car Parts, and Land Rover Car Parts and Spares. I ordered a whole lot of other stuff (engine mounts, ignition harnesses etc) so I am not sure of the exact amount. I was ordering through someone else, but went with Rimmers in order to put some Triumph parts on it, but never got around to it and just ended up ordering the lot.
Courier for the 10kg parcel was pretty steep at 85 quid, but I didn't have time to shop around elsewhere.

I cant find the cap mentioned anywhere, but looking at the workshop mamual page 26.1.2 I seem to be missing the oil cooler return pipe? The cap seems to be where the hose # 7 should be, feeding into pipe 6?
Judging by the absence of a EGR cooler on the EGR pipe in across the front of the engine, I guess I have a pre EU3 model although it's a 2003 D2a. However the workshop manual inset still show a radiator lower feed hose and oil cooler return pipe around the back of the engine for pre EU03 models, but they're missing on mine.
