Disco II V8 Auto VS TD5 Auto

Will an automatic transmission out of a V8 Disco II bolt up to a TD5?
I remember reading somewhere that they have different sized torque converters, if so could cause some issues.

I'm sure others will correct me if I'm wrong here, but it's not the TC you necessarily have to worry about. They run different ECU's which determing the TC lockup point. On a V8, it's at around 60 kph / 1300 rpm. On a TD5 it's at 80 kph, with higher revs to accomodate for the difference in tourque deliver. One of the TD5 guys will be able to let you know the RPM's at which the TC locks up.

So, as far as I'm aware, you shoul dbe able to use the same auto trans in a V8 as found in a TD5. As long as you have all of the correct engine to transmission components.

    Does this sound righ guys?

Bell housing would be different, starter motor location, drive shaft size?
Just some thoughts that spring to mind

The bell housing is definitely different. I found that out while looking to buy a V8 Auto transmission for my TD5! The transmission itself appears to be the same for both ZF 4HP22.

Then go and have a read of the ashcroft site. Its all there.....
Or, if in Melbourne, go and talk to "Bill" at A&B Automatics in Dandenong.

I have a 4HP22 out of a 2001 V8 Discovery that had done 130k KM - the transmission appears to be in very good condition and from the casting dates on the casing and bell housing was probably a warranty replacement or an exchange unit - it is very, very clean inside. I intending keeping it as a spare for my TD5. Apart from the different Bell housing, torque converter and ECU what are the differences (if any) between a 4HP22 from a V8 and one from a TD5 Discovery 2 ? Ashcroft's site didn't give me any clues.

Therevare 3 different sized TC's s/m/l. Ones from a P38, largest I think due to use with 4.6v8, med is TD5 and then 4.0v8. Theres more info in Ashcrofts site I think.

Otherwise have it dyno test the engine then have it rebuilt accordingly.
