    starter inhibitor switch problem

    hi all , doing the last bits of the compressor install this arvo when i started the car and the M&S lights were flashing ,check handbook it says contact technition URGENTLY rang P/ R and they say its the inhibitor switch and it could go into limp mode if we go out driving on sunday did a quick google and found an 08 post from a UK site from someone in oz saying they were around the $500 mark .would this be correct , could i replace the switch in the driveway if i got one or is it one for the pros. thanks for any input,tony.

    Tony,

    First of all, a low battery voltage during cranking will cause these lights to come on so leave the engine running for about 10 minutes, then switch off and try again.

    The switch is about $400 odd actually, (USED to be $650+!!!) and is reasonably easy to fit except the CAT gets in the way on 2001/2 onward Td5.

    They require aligning, there is a special tool BUT if you carefully scribe a line across the old switch housing and onto the trans casing at the front bolt of the switch, then just transfer the corresponding mark to the new switch and refit to trans all should be well.

    thanks justin , i cracked the ****s, packed everything away and went and did the dishes so i will check the batterey in the mornin it might be a bit low maybe time for a new one.tc

    update:batterey 12.95v-stopped 14.30 running, justin i did the run for 10 min thing stopped then restarted first go but now have no radio or clock ,checked fuse OK come inside for a coffee go back out an start it then stop it then restart and nothing so lock it and horn goes beep when it locks unlock it and then it starts .any ideas.tc

    all fixed, new switch and change a blown fuse thanks to the boys at P/R .TC
