Does it have ACE? How do I Check?

    Hi Everybody,

I think I have found a Disco i want to buy, its a 99 td5 7 seater, is has (or seems to) all the fruit i want. I was hoping for ACE although not essential but how do I check to see if it is fitted?

I haven't had a chance to have a good look at it (just a 5 min test pilot ride in my lunch break) but all seems to be good with it, no issues with smoke or dodgey noises, has plenty of punch (more than i remember them having) and apparently a long range fuel tank (why you would need more than 100 litre tank in Perth is beyond me - it just isn't that big), has a good bull bar on the front, an ARB compressor mounted to the firewall, side steps, snorkel. Unfortunately the dealer didnt really know anything about it. It does have history which helps and servicing has been regular.

It has an issue with the tail gate not opening but i hear that is relatively common. It has a few interior extras as well which are a bonus.

Finding out if it has ACE fitted will make the decision a bit easier so any help will be welcome and thanks in advance.

    Cheers,

    Dan

Look under bonnet, over towards the passenger side. If the power steering fluid container has 2 screw tops, then it has ACE. One top you unscrew to top up the power steering fluid. The other top you unscrew to top up the ACE fluid.

Fluid is same type in each but doesn't cross over systems. Best use genuine LR "cold climate" fluid in both.

If you want to check "after hours", have a quick peak at the front drivers side wheel arch. The ACE front ram and hoses are clearly visiable in the top forward area of the arch.

I have ACE on a 99 7 seat with SLS and highly recommend it for the comfort factor alone.

    Yep, at $60/L...

Just priced the ACE filter today at approx $235, was planning on doing a flush as well. May need to take out a second mortgage.

Fortunately these are not a high service item.

Unfortunately an after hours check is out - they have a dirty great spark fence around the place - gotta love industrial areas.

I checked for red dust and didn't see any, surprising as it hadn't been detailed when i saw it first. Might have been a beach car (again no sand to suggest it) but seems to have been a long haul tarmac tractor.

Thinking i might go have another look tomorrow after work and have a longer drive, maybe throw it a roundabout or two and see how it goes...

All at legal speeds of course....

That's even dearer than list price, was it a dealer?
