    Battery

hi all, went to start the D2 and it wouldn't turn over. guessing the battery is dead, had not driven the D2 for 2days. it made some clicking noises perhaps the starter motor trying to kick in... checked with a volt meter on the battery it reads 12.1 Volts. Im guessing this is a dead battery, should i just buy a replacement one. whats a good brand at reasonable price... are they a 600 cca battery. cheers

Whats the voltage while cranking, well key held to start?
Thinking it could be the starter soliniod.

If the voltage drops off to low numbers-> Battery or leeds.
If it stays high it might be the soliniod.
    Cheers, Kyle

On the subject, my truck hasn't been started since Friday last week waiting for new prop shaft to show. Battery is brand new & decided I should go & start her cause I know they have a habit of flattening the battery when left to rest. It did start, after 5 days, but only just. Question is, I'm going to cairns later in the year & she's going to be left in long term carparking for 10 days. How do I prevent her flattening the battery whilst I'm away? Don't wanna think about the GLW's reaction to the truck not starting after a flight from cairns to melb with a 3 & 7 year old.
    Cheers in advance guys

Discobaker I have the same problem, Have a co car so the Disco sits all week and gets a little hard to start by the weekend. The batttery is not that old and the altenator is brand new. The battery is slightly smaller than reccomended and is going to be replaced with a larger one prior to Easter.

Untill then I have overcome this to an extent by fitting a small solar panel onto my nudge bar and it makes the diffeance between starting reluctantly or not starting at all until.

Maybe a larger solar panel with a regulator so as to not overcharge things would work for Your trip?

Granted, that's a bloody brilliant idea but hopefully, provided nothing else breaks, this situation is only going to arise 2 times in 12 months. My truck is my daily drive so...maybe a spare battery in the back so I can jump from it when we get home?
    I'm sure there's a fuse I can pull, somewhere?

Weird! Mine hasn't been driven for 16 days so I just went out and kicked it in the guts.....

    Fired in under 2 seconds....

Battery is a 750cca unit, 5 years old.

Something to do with the abs module continuously ticking over or something if I remember correctly.
I've got the battery specified for the V8, only about 6months old.

I agree with Tombie it all sounds strange, the battery should not go flat within a couple of days or even a week. I too have a company car and my disco is only driven on weekends, I have never had any dramas starting it, Battery is a couple of years old. Maybe you should check with an ammeter what current is being drawn from battery when not running.

I'm guessing the use is very short runs for OP and battery is min charge...

Or, accessories inside are pulling parasitic current...
