check the mounting bolts for all the pullys and the condition of your harmonic balancer...
you dont want any of them spinny bits translating rotational motion into linier motion.
My neewly aquired D2 sometimes has a clanning tinny sound coming from the right front, like something is loose. It only last seconds then is gone.
it only does it as it is started and I turn the steering wheel or select reverse immediately after starting. I goes away quickly.
Has all the fruit, abs.hc, sls etc, it reaaly is like a flapping bit of tin.,
I did investigate the viscous fan blades rubbing on the radiator cowl, there are rub marks due to lack of fixing screws ,but that wouldn't sound tinny.
Does SLS rams make a noise on startup?
I don't think its the loose flex plate as it sounds more front the right hand front

My catalytic converter s^*t itself making the that tinny clanning noise!
TD5 or V8. Sounds like the Harmonic Balancer. Does it do it when you switch the aircon on/off? Start saving up fast!!
I noticed there is a piece of aluminum acting as a heat sheild for the steering shaft joints, it is attached in 2 places, and when flicking it with the finger it seems to replicate the tinny noise.
Is it a TD5? Might be the heat shield on the turbo. Rivets work lose and that flaps around.....
No V8, it's been fitted there for a reason. Maybe something was there before, some sort of accessory?
Do you mean ACE rams? Check the bolt holding either end of the ram, esp the one you would consider the lower (most forward) one. I though I needed to replace the bushes but turned out to be the bolts were loose (thumbs up to me for checking that one before ordering bushes). The ram would knock/rattle on start and bumps but a lower, less tinny noise.
