    sewing own boot gaiters

Hi all, hope you are well and are enjoying your 'easter' break...

I have question re the gators for manuals...

I am able to sew my own (i'm one of those sad jack of all trades LOL)... and was wondering re the fabric, what I have on mine seems to be a thin type vinyl as apposed to leather.

The gator for my manual stick is coming apart so I plan on using that as a pattern (as well as the others) however... the fabric that's used... seems like a vinyl of sorts????

... would I be best placed purchasing off cuts through an auto upholsterer or whether leather would be best?

Is there a particular thickness I need to consider??

I plan on re-using the plastic square frame (not sure of technical term but is what the gator sits in/on/clips to??)

Has anyone sewed their own gators at all and can offer some advice please?

It doesn't seem as hard as sewing clothes - I have an original pattern to work from so makes it easy - not that sewing clothes are more hard, just more time consuming in comparison LOL!!!

    Thanks again,
    Lp

    Leather

I bought leather ones of eBay, which were great and very easy to install for Handbrake and High Range/Low Range shifter

Have no idea what the actual material used is, but I suspect your right in thinking that it is a vinyl.

I do think that if you have the means, then leather would wear better. Oh, and you get that great smell in the car for a while.

Who knows, there might even be a market for them..

Check this thread. Wouldn't waste your time sewing one. Just buy a set from these guys (Top Gaiters - very good). The LR original one is very average.

By the way they supply all the gaiters.(Handbrake,CDL, Gear as a package deal).

    Regards

I hate to be pedantic, but getting in before Ron does, the word is gaiter, not gator.
