What are 3 amigos? ACE? (Newbie Alert)

    Hi all,
I've just registered and posted an introduction thread. I've been lurking for a while because I'm in the market for my first 4WD and a Discovery 2 TD5 is high on my shortlist. I figure this would be a good place to learn about the pros and cons, the models to avoid, the must have features and accessories.
So here comes the first of many questions ... who knows, maybe I'll actually be able to contribute something useful down the track a ways.
During my initial browsing here I've noticed many references to "the 3 amigos" and "ACE" ... I sense that the former is not such a good thing and the latter is somewhat desirable. Could someone enlighten me?
    Cheers
    Greg

    Welcome Greg.

    I love ACE.....

Active Cornering Enhancement. You can tell if a truck has it if it has 2 filler caps on the power steering res. it is a hydralic system that pushes or relaxes the front and rear swaybars.

basically makes the truck corner almost flat.

This clip tell you lots about the cool stuff in a Disco 2.

I have a TD5 7 seater with ACE and SLS (self leveling suspension. it has done 355,000km and still get 11ltr/100km around town. pretty impressive i recon. At these high KM's I am tinkering alot but I enjoy it most of the time

as for the 3 amigo there is lots on here. have a look in the Good Oil section but If you get 3 warning lights on at once it is a brake problem that can be an easy fix or a mugrel.

Drive a few trucks before you buy. a mate of mine drove a dog of a Disco then bought a prado. he is now trying to sell the prado to buy a disco. also dive one without ACE and one with ACE. I wouldn't be without it.

    Cheers

    Matt

Thanks Matt ... Very informative ... I'm assuming stuff like ACE was an optional extra.
So the three amigos warning lights coming on together? It that an intended design feature or some sort of glitch?
    Thanks

    Welcome!

Now that you've signed up, you'll be able to perform a thorough search on the site. The 3 amigos have been talked about a lot and probably don't deserve yet another.

Run a search my friend. You will find the answers you need easily.

Quite a simple comparison. You want ACE, you don't want 3 amigos.

With the frequency that it appears on some vehiclesyou'd believe it's a design feature. On mine it seems to be a lack of off road warning light. When I haven't been away for a while they start to appear.

The "3 Amigoes" is just the term for a group of warning lights that come on (Hill Descent Control-HDC, Anti-Lock Braking-ABS, & Traction Control-TC) all at once, They come on all at once because a single ECU controls all 3 systems, so when one faults you get 3 warnings.
Do some searching & you will find some good peoples works on how to repair.
Good luck & welcome to the Landrovering world.
