A drain hole is fine but it would also pay to seal the lens up as best as possible too.
It's up tou you where you drill though. Use a metal bit.
My one front turn signal was full of water - right to the top so there was no visiable water line.
I have not done any river / water crossings, or high pressure washing so only rain water has gotten in. Can not see any cracks in it.
If it has happened once it will surely happen again.
Would it be safe to drill a small drain hole in the bottom of the lens?
Would you drill the front or the back (front would be easier) and would a wood bit be better than a metal bit?
Could always put a bit of silicone over once it has dried out.

Don't drill a hole it'll just end up getting dirty inside the lens assy. Problem is water running down the side bonnet channel (under the bonnet) and into the lens assy. Put a blob of silicone at the end of the channel to make sure the water runs off away from the lens - will post a pic if I rememeber I had exactly the same problem when I first bought the car s/hand, blob of silicone and no more issues...
Hoping this will work...

Panya,
Thanks for the photo. I had a look at on the weekend and recognised what you had posted before. I have had to order a new globe holder as the reason the turn signal had stopped working was because the bottom contact had rusted away, so the water has been in there for a long time. The other turn signal was bone dry thankfully.
Drilled a very small hole in the bottom of my problematic lens and haven't had any H2O in it since.......nor dust or dirt for that matter. Just keep the hole small

Yep, another common problem with these trucks lol....front left on mine did the same...small hole bottom left solved the problem. A new globe holder also needed.
"common" seems to be a common over used phrase when discussing vehicles on this site.
Define "common"?!
Td5s common(ly) have injector loom issues...... A statistically stable statement..
How many "common"(ly) have leaky indicators? I've never seen one yet.
There are over 20 Disco 2s in town and not one has a leaking indicator!!!
Until this thread I've not seen a post about it either.
Replace the seal on the back where the globe goes in and fix your problem. It's not that common!!!!
Hey Toombie, heaps of them leak.
The low rainfall in your neck of the woods probably explains why none leak in your area.
I get to see a lot of D2s and I would guess more than 10% have this problem or have had them drilled. I saw 2 last week alone, mind you it has been raining all week.
I drilled both of mine about 6 years ago and have no problems with either water nor dust. I did attempt to seal them before hand.

Mine has water in the front left indicator, but then again it has a large crack down the centre of it, in the process of ordering a new one.
