That report would frighten me away but with so many on the market surely you could find a better one - one without all these repair hassles and expense.
Hi Guys,
I've had a Ritter inspection done on a 99 D2 TD5 and there are a number of issues, some of which I can diy, some which I can perhaps ignore, others I'm not so sure...
The ones that particularly concern me are:
-- Fuel heater/cooler leaking coolant
-- Oil seepage from power steering pump, rota filter housing and intercooler hoses.
-- Slow to engage reverse (auto trans)
Any thoughts on cost to fix and severity of these reported issues, especially of the slow reverse engage?
There are also some body issues - the drivers door has been opened hard against the check strap and there is a 2in tear in the door pillar in this area, plus a bend in the outer door skin.
They've also picked up shuttle valve faults, and claim the EGR bypass needs to be removed, and original piping needs reinstating.
My initial reaction is to recoil in horror but I wonder to what degree it just nit-picking?
cheers
Paul

That's my gut reaction, too. I guess I'll keep on looking.

You would have to assume that the auto was on the way out and budget 3-4000 for overhaul, and negotiate on that basis. If it was something less like blocked filter and needing a flush then lucky for you.Slow to engage reverse (auto trans)

Aside from the auto problems, these are no biggies. Fuel cooler, new seals. Oil out of intercooler hoses, fit a provent. Rotor filter, check "o" ring then check if bolt holes are stripped.

If thats all I'd be happy, aside from the auto, but how slow is it?
Could have found; fuel regulator leak, transfer leak, brake discs undersize, radiator weaping, seat belts, shockers, ect..
I agree with this->
All but the auto are fairly comon at some stage for these rigs.
The door is your call or a get an opinion from a panel shop.
The shuttle valve faults may need more info. or is because the mod. has been done (Plan B?).
EGR pipe is a tecnical one, borrow some old pipes and fit them. Once passed refit the kit.
The gearbox could also just be in need of fresh fluid & a filter. Not sure how K's are on the vehicle & may just be shy of that service (every 40K). It also may be down a little on fluid which will cause the vehicle to slowly select reverse. Maybe a cheap fix.
Cheers
The car supposedly had a transmission fluid change within the last 10K km, so I wouldn't be banking on it being an issue of low fluid.
I have the Ritter inspection in case anyone is looking at the car, as it might save someone $260. I think Ritter err on the side of extreme caution, and despite engine mounts being changed 20K ago, they are noting slight wear for example.
cheers

Its all relative.....it would want to be cheap with an inspection report like that....like real cheap. By way of comparison, I got a 2003 D2A , with 150k km for 15k.
If you do Option B you don't or shouldn't get any more fault readings saying the SVS. That has been my experience so far. Have they actually done Option B. Check for this.
By the way Paul, my first opinion is to keep looking unless it is dirt cheap and you like tinkering. What is it selling for.
Regards
Andrew
