    some of the steering boxes do have a bleed nipple on them, it looks like an oversized brake bleed nipple, primairly it lets the fluid run backwards so you dont have a problem with the entire volume of the reservoir in the box leaving the pump to cavitate.

    sounds to me like you may have done the pump.
