Red face Arghhh - key detached from key fob!! (lost)

    Hi All,
well as I am about to head out.. i've grabbed my keys from the usual hook only to see that my key has come out of the fob.... I have the fob but the key is no where to be found.

I've just spent the last hour tearing the house apart as well as searching outside for it.

To top if off, I think my battery is going on my fob so it's not working to let me into see whether it may have fallen on the floor....

    *sigh*

    So....

Is there anyother way to gain access to opening the doors when a key is missing and the fob battery is being temper-mental?

If we called out some one like RACV would they be able to help to get into the car OR do I need to call a locksmith that specialises in autos???

I'm hoping that maybe the key fell on the floor drivers side?

Any help from here would be reeeeeeeeeeeeeally appreciated.

    Thanks

    Lp

it never came with a spare key when I bought it... it only had one key :-(...

Anyhooo the RACV guy came and even he didn't know how to get into it - WT!!

So... my dilemma now is that... we got into it... but no key....

is it now a matter of getting an auto locksmith out and if so... do you know what the process is on what they need to do... do you or anyone else out there know of costs?

    Thanks

I assume you have had a check of the handbag for the key?

the entire HOUSE is short of a bomb site ... I have a baggallini Messenger bag as my everydayer which consists of a phone, purse and coin purse def no handbags here LOL... :-p

but seriously though... anyone know what sort of costs i'll be up for with a locksmith as obviously I need a key. If it's not inside then it's not inside. THe only other place would be under the carport but even then i've looked 3 times with the spotlight to no avail...

I'm assuming it's gone to one of those places that little people like along with my watch (which is a whole other story)....

    Cheers,

I've just had a look at brit car UK and they have an ignition key with transponder. I don't care for the transponder as I have mine... but the iginition key - is there a particular code or something i'd be needing to look at for the model/series I have??

I have no idea if keys are all cut the same or slightly different??

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks

My first call would be to land rover to see if they can use your car serial numbers and proof of ownership to have blank key blade cut for you.

Have you checked in the ignition?

Just a thought, have you looked in the ignition barrel?

Thinking that the blade may have pulled out of the fob when you took the key out last.

You obviously turned the car off, so the last known place is in the ignition.

If its there, it will certainly be cheaper to get it removed, and re-assembled with the fob.

I have a slight twitch from going temporarily mad but that's ok - I can deal with it.

Upon much closer inspection it's in the ignition - quite happy to own up to being an idiot for not thinking to look there so thank you and...

THANK YOU everyone for your help and replies :-D, it really is much appreciated.

One last question though, is it better to get RACV out (again) or to get a locksmith to do the work?

Also, the red light on the dash to indicate that the alarm is on is flashing like crazy - will that drain alot of the battery at all??

    Thanks,
    Lp
