With the key out glue it into the fob with some super glue. go to a locksmith and they will have a non fob blank have it cut keep it in a magnetic holder under the car somewhere. you can use a non fob key by using the code in the manual.

Order your second key from OS and have your mechanic programme it.

I'm assuming you have learnt a lesson here. You need a spare key. By the way they are all cut different. We would be in a lot of brown stuff if they were all the same. The only thing that is the same is the blades.

Also looks like there was a race between who found the key first, was it Nankas then Basil or vice versa.

One other thing I have seen some dirt cheap Fobs (excluding the circuit board). I think there is one cheaper in HK. (I believe these are good prices).

and the battery is very common and cheap,,
and needs two seconds with a small flat blade screwdriver to install,,

IIRC,,,
take key ring off
insert small flat blade into slot in the body of the lock (put your glasses on--)where the ring slips through, twist and the lid should pop up,,

I've found the key - and it wasn't in the ignition as thought!! Where did I find it... balancing on one of the kids toy box plastic crate handles - WT!!!

Elated at finding and re-attaching my key and fob.... i've gone to insert the key into the door lock only for it to NOT be able to be inserted all the way in - WHAT!!! TO top it off, I can't even lift UP nor DOWN the snib!! SO RACV have stuffed my door lock - great - NOT!

As for replacing the battery, the RACV man tested the battery and said it was fine but i'm still going to order one for my own sanity.

As a side note though and hope someone can comment:

from time to time on the odd occassion the fob doesnt want to work so I have had to use the key in the lock scenario to unlock it. Is this a normal occurrance or just something getting tripped up somewhere?

Is anyone able to provide me where in the RAVE manual it has a layout of the door lock / snib component please?? I'm hoping to print this off and show it to the next person and will be asking them if they have worked on a landrover before they even touch it!!

Lastly, thanks everyone for the replies about the replacement keys. I'm already looking into that one. My husband said someone from work told him he could get one w/ the fob for around 130.00 or 180.00 (can't remember)... but generally speaking whats the price range others have had to fork out for a spare key/fob?...

Definitley get another key/fob ... but, also get 2x spare emergency keys.

Take your existing key to any locksmith, and ask them to cut you a plain flat key (fobless). This can be used with the EKA to unlock the D2 & dissable the alarm/immobiliser. (Instructions are in your owners manual)

Keep 1 in the house / keep the other somewhere external (under) the D2 ... and remember the EKA (mines written on the plastic bag the flat key is stashed in).

Practice unlocking & de-immobilizing the D2 with said key .... just so you're familiar with how it's done.
