Check your fuses mate.
Sounds silly but if you have blown a brake light fuse the alt. doesn't charge.
I'll find a link for you to look at, stay tuned![]()
Hello all,
I have just joined this thread today and hate to hit you with a hard one straight up but i need some help please. I have a 2000 disco 2 td5. We were coming home from a day out just on dark about 40 kms from home. I noticed my headlights getting dimmer and dimmer, about 2 kms from home the car seemed to go into limp mode, most dash lights were flashing and the headlights were almost non existant. As i pulled into the the driveway it was running very rough, i turned it off, went to start it and the battery was dead. I then put my ute battery in it and everything was back to normal, i drove it around the block and back home sitting there idling, after a short time it started to do the same. To me everything was pointing at a dud alternator so i ordered a new one and fitted it today. I took it for a drive and the same thing, i went about 5 kms, went to turn a corner, it was running rough and stopped, so i got towed home. I then put the ute batterie in again and it was good, reved it and it was strong, sat there idling and after a while, reved it again and it seemed like it went in limp mode again, all dash lights came back on including the odometer flashing continuely, i turned it off and flat batterie again. I did put the batterie back in the little ute and it was enough to start the ute. Its got me beat, i live in a small town a long way from any decent Rover mechanics. And i was just telling a bloke this morning that i have had a good run with Rovers, i hope he doesnt drive pass, Ha Ha. Any help would be much apreciated. Thank you.
Cheers Bill

Check earth terminals in engine bay,one may be badly corroded or/& loose.
Good luck
Have a look at the earth leads while your doing your checks.
I was also thinking you might have had a wire loose/fallen of from the old alt..
Might be time to test if the alt. is working and not getting the voltage to the battery with a multimeter.
I have it all sorted thanks to your help fellas. I am not positive of the exact fault but removed and cleaned up every possible earth and positive wire i could find. I also fitted a new 150 amp mega fuse, every thing is good apart from the odometer continuely flashing now, i have been told this needs to be reset by a Landrover dealer. I don't think will hurt anything until i can get a chance to go for a long drive to a dealership. Thanks again for your help and input, i appreciate it.
Cheers Bill
