Thread: Largest size tyre on spare wheel carrier?

Something to consider is variances in tyre sizes. I have a Mickey Thompson MTZ 265/75/16 hanging on my back door with the carrier flipped and it just clears. My son had MT Baja Claws on his GQ Patrol, 33/12.5/15s and my 265s, which I always understood to be the equivalent to 32s, were higher than his 33s when placed next to each other. This week he bought MT MTZs in 33 and my worn 32s are the exact same height as his brand new 33s for the exact same type of tyre. And would you believe the tread depth on the 33s is noticably deeeper than on the 32s - comparing my unused spare so no wear to take into the equation. Go figure !!
Just thought I would mention this as it may affect the clearance as the stated sizes seem to not quite always add up - to me anyway, or am I missing something?

I had 265/75/16 mtz's, on the original carrier and bumper, the spare just rubbed.
They equal to from memory 31.8s. I recon somethings wrong to get the same size or bigger than a 33. I don't think the profile will allow it. But would be a good buy
