I think you should just buy it and enjoy.

I always like the idea of buying cheap and doing the work or having the work done myself, that way you know what has been done and need not worry for a while.

One thing to remember though is that the car is now 10 years old, that is fair vintage and you can expect a number of things to fail and ongoing maintenance is the key.
Dropping oils and maintaining cooling system along with a low coolant alarm is just the start.

Bearings, shocks, seals, bushes, linkages and the like are a wear and tear item and will need changing, even brand new cars show wear and tear.

A Landy is no different to a Landcruiser, but if you let it down in way of care, it will at some stage do it to you.
That is in my experience anyhow.

    Good luck.

assuming that i am getting a new clutch, new head, new head gasket, new transfer seals, new radiator. it has had fuel pump, air bags and compressor replaced 3 years ago. how long can i expect to have it problem free.

assuming that i get it serviced every 25000km, do oil and filter every 5000km.

i dont want to spend $8000 to get the car and to get it running for find something else will break.

it will will only be used for road use, mainly, and long country trips

some of you replies are quite comforting, others are making me nervous.

sure it's nice, who is the member.

wrong state, dont want auto, dont want V8 and leather will just wear and expensive to replace. apart from that, it is great. and really i need to add another 4 grand to that to get gas. where as my uncles will cost the same, a bit less, after its fixed and i have added some performance mods. the performance of the td5 will be close to the V8, but with way better economy

most of the stuff that has been replaced on the ebay listing i am going to replace on my uncles.

which one is better, my uncles or this one?

    ps
is active ride suspension the same as ACE?
    if not what is it?

We keep trying to help you and you keep asking "How long is a piece of string?" We don't know.

Who knows what else will let go!! The head could go again, nothing is guaranteed and no-one knows no matter what car you drive.

Buy a 3 year old Mazda chances are something will break, it may not but it could.

Your car is over 10 years old, who knows.

A good mate just spend $52k on a motor rebuild for a 25 year old Porsche and No, he did not even go crazy.
That money may seem a lot but at the end of the day, your car was $70k when new and after ten years, that my friend is the price you pay.

Oh, and leather in a off road vehicle or any vehicle is brilliant BTW as its very easy to clean and last for a very long time if cared for.

    Errr - NO..

The leather in D2's is brilliant. Cant speak for any other models, as I haven't driven in any.

There must be a reason a number of people are removing the cloth seats & installing the leather....

in my uncles its just cloth, but manual not electric.

can any one answer if active ride suspension is the same as ACE? On redbook it says that active ride suspension "leans into corners", sounds like ace.
    if not what is it?
