The diesels have a fuel line problem around the top of the pump,,
Was there a recall?
I know plenty of people have had to renew/replace lines.
filled up on weekend, on heading home with over 1/2 tank diesel sprayed over back of car.removed tank and found plastic breather line on back r/h side of tank had a kink in it with a zip tie on it.would any one out their know if this would cause it to leak when engine is running, and should this zip tie be there cheers fellow landy owners

will buy new fuel lines. will replace plastic breather tube and rubber breather hose thanks for your reply Pedro-The-Swift cheers Robert
you will find that one of the 4 fuel lines on the fuel pump has rubbed through. new lines shoulkd fix it
I recommend you sheath the fuel lines with split rubber hose, held in place by cable ties.
My 04 had the recall but still wore through the fuel lines twice, once under warranty, once after.

Most probably the high pressure fuel line (green collar at fuel pump) unclipping and rubbing against the chassis. Pictures here below of what I went through.
Fuel tank out:
Fuel line bundle seen from down behind:
Fuel line bundle across chassis member on its way to fuel filter housing:
Fuel line bundle out, leak point circled in red:
Close up:
Area where fuel line had been rubbing against:
New bundle (expensive stuff!)
Tank clean (in and out) and ready to go back in:
The new fuel lines were spiral-wrapped before going in and every potential contact areas lined with adhesive rubber matting. This was 3 yrs ago and no probs thus far...
Cheers
Matt
thanks Matt for the imformation, my green line rubbed in exactly the same spot as yours and i will do as you have done with your lines cheers mate.... any other D2 OWNER in landrover land if you havent had a leak yet get under and check them lines before its to late
We encountered the same problem last year. High pressure line chafed against the chassis spreader. The repair was cut the line sqsuare, use fuel injection hose to join the nylon (it's a tight fit) using small clamps. Vehicle has done about 50,000 km since and no sign of leak.
No removal of tank - just hoist access and about $10.
Cheers

Is this a problem for the V8's, or is it just another TD5 thing.

I cant believe it ...Same deal ....moon must be right phase or something smelt the diesel and saw wet patch on the driveway!! Thought I had it when I found a connector loose but NO ..... cant do a join thing because it is right up and under (as eddie waring used to say) can only see the fine mist aghh so how much (roughly) for a new bundle of hoses and stupid question whats the secret with the quick connectors how do they come apart more used to pneumatic push in types. Cheers Steve .
