    Transmission jack adaptors

I'm going to do the release bearing on the disco next time I service it.

Has anyone used those transmission jack adaptors you can put into your normal floor jack?

I've only ever used a proper transmission jack, and am unsure how well the adaptor ones go.

    Thoughts....

I made one for the R380 in my Disco1 and have also used it twice for my Disco2. It works very well provided you have a good sized trolley jack and the adapter has to fit the jack very well.

The last time I removed and refitted the gearbox (with transfer case still attached) I was able to do the entire job on my own. Had the gearbox out in 2.5 hours.

The only real limitation with a trolley jack is that the maximum lift has to be quite high. Mine has a full height lift of 595mm which was just enough. A second trolley jack is also handy for holding the gearbox while the adapter and main lift jack are fitted.
