    So kind basil... My problem is, i usually cant plan when i'm doing these jobs and do an hour here or there over a weekend hoping its done ready for work on Monday...due to the "carpet commando" factors!!!! When I did the bull bar, I only got a hour here or there over a week and it was up on the ramps all the time, quite depressing really, but the end result was well worth it!!! hopefully it goes smoothly now I have all this great advice and information from everyone here!

    with weight on the vehicle tie the coils of the springs together, it makes them come out so much easier.

    I also have a small 2 stage 2t jack that I place in where the bump stop goes, Before I undo the shocky I use this to fully extend the axle on one shock (the other shockies the same length, jack the other side down the same amount when you do it), let it down a bit, then remove the shocky and jack the axle down again this makes placing the new shock/spring in easier.

    of course, being really lazy I pre compress the springs in my press prior to roping them off.
    Oh for a press to compress springs...

    I have a mobile press (also known as a live axle) - jack up the axle on one side - place spring under diff pumpkin - lower axle - apply spring compressors (or rope off as you do) - raise axle - install compressed spring - jack up axle - remove compressors and the jobs done.

    Probably not the safest way of compressiong a springs but it's worked for me on numerous occasions.

    Why spring compressors?

    I fitted +4" coils AND a 30mm spacer in the D2 by hand...

    I couldn't get 450mm springs (F/L) into the rear without compressing and my front springs are the same length too - definitely no way to get those in without compression!

    Abs won't make any difference and you can swap springs without compressors.
