the new keys are just bits of steel,,,
no fob?
hi folks,
hope you are all doing well (and to all the dads out there ... had a lovely day) :-D...
... continuing on somewhat related to one of my previous posts, I had a spare set of keys (x2) cut recently and have noticed that of the two new keys, when I insert them into the ignition barrel I can get as far as "two clicks" over (which is when all the dash lights up)... but if I want to start the engine the new keys are not turning the engine over (???)....
The only way to start the engine with either of the new keys is to press the 'disarm' button on my alarm fob - then I can start the engine.
Note - the original key works fine, I don't need to press any disarm button on the alarm fob.
(I'm not using the original as it detached itself from the fob and after the debacle I went through with RACV prefer to use cut keys so the original is stowed securely away.)
Has anyone experienced this sort of problem at all? Is it the keys, or is the alarm on the way out or something else?? Is there a way to 'reset' the alarm if such a thing is possible if that's the problem? or is it 'just how it is'??
appreciate your thoughts (and hope the above made sense) :-D
thanks,
Lp

Not 100% familiar with the D2 system but the key fob may have to be next to the lock as you turn the key, some vehicles have an inductive loop that checks the key fob is present. Had this issue with a Mitsubishi Triton key that fell apart the other day, owner had to find where he threw the fob on the floor after it came off in his hand. Wouldn't start without it present.

I have the fob and separate key on the same keyring and never had a problem.
After opening the door you have 30 seconds to start up, otherwise you have to use the fob again to de-immobilise.
I always start the car before I get in anyway, so I rarely take that long.

hi all,
thanks for the replies...
I think i'm going to put it down to another one of those idiosyncratic features LR have and will put up with it... 30 seconds to get 4 kids into the car would be a dream but alas it's 10 mins for me atleast LOL....
:-D
Cheers,
Lp
If the dash lights flasing again, it's either press the unlock button again or wave the fob around until the light goes out.
What device is needed to turn off the feature? What vare the steps and who is in western sydney and has one to borrow before the weekend?
LP, when you say "bits of steel" is it exactly that, or are your new keys cut from LR key blanks and have the black plastic lump on one end. I ask as the latter can detatch from the fob and is an easy "click" to push back into the fob.
