Hi Clubagreenie, you may want to PM Psimpson7 as he was the one who advised the feature can be turned off. Perhaps he can help you with instructions??

Hi SImonl8353 – they were cut from a locksmith and don’t have any plastic bits. Unfortunately the easy ‘click’ still unclicked itself and combined with the debacle from RACV (saga posted a while ago) … am just disarming before I start it. A small inconvenience but I’d rather that than lose the original key and resort to call out the RACV (which I won’t be doing any time ever again)…

    Cheers,

I've got the same problem losing the key from the fob ... tried clicking it back in but (luckily) it seems to fall to the floor of our 2nd car when I'm driving it.

My local key cutter said that he couldn't copy it any advice on where to get it done?

    Thanks

The issue I originally had is that they cant clamp the small blade to copy. So you need someone who can access the database to computer cut it.

    I used S&S locksmiths 9675 4353 / 0416 257 740

came door to door, cost a bit but what doesn't. Main cost is to them to access the codes apparently.

Theres a post on this forum which talks about getting a replacement key. I followed that post as the case had cracked on 1 of my keys. 8 days later it arrived. You simply swap over the circuit board into the new case. With the case are 2 new batteries and a new key blank. For $25 its pretty good value and works.

Link here; note they advertise V8 and TD5 but there wont be any difference in what you get. LANDROVER DISCOVERY 2 V8 4.0 NEW KEY FOB REMOTE CASE | eBay

Hi Craig, strange that your local key cutter couldn't do it. I just went to a locksmith shop (they sell locks, safes, alarms and other security related items other than just cutting keys) .... i'm sure there'd be places in your area... good luck :-D

    Cheers,

Go to a proper locksmith and you should have no trouble. You will probably find it's cheaper also.

I just went to a Mr Minit at the local shopping mall ... said "copy this" ... he says "I can't because it won't work with your car" ... I says "copy the dam key with whatever plain blank matches it" ... he complains but copies the key, I pay $7 then lure him outside to show him how it unlocks the door

1st rule in retail ... the customer is always right!

... out of curiosity Fluids, did you start the car without having to disable the alarm (after waiting a 30 second or so period)??

(...IMO sometimes some ppl shouldn't be in the service they are in if they don't want to be doing the services they offer, lucky you he cut the key :-D)...

No, unlocking the door without using the EKA causes the alarm to go off .... after using the EKA and opening the door you have 10sec (I think) to get the key into the ignition and turned to pos II ... otherwise it will immobilise again.
