It must be a design thing 'cos the D3/4 do it too![]()
Hi all.
Well, the inevitable happened. The rubbish plastic external cover that runs up the side of the windscreen from bonnet to roof, finally flew off up the freeway this arfo!
My question is, is the purpose of this strip for aesthetics and (dare I say) aerodynamics, or has it a more impotant feature?
Does it actually do anything to seal the window? Both sides have never appeared to fit that tightly to make a real seal. In all the time its been considerably broken, nothings leaked in (on that side anyway!). Today it just gave up the ghost.
It actually doesn't look too bad missing, but theres a gaping hole at the bottom behind the corner of the bonnet that the bottom part of the strip covered, but I'm sure I can "quick fix" that particular problem.
Looks aren't that important to me with my Disco, just concerned about the practicality.
Any comments/thoughts appreciated.
Cheers,

Sorry can't help on that one.
Bundalene has taken apart more D2's than anyone else I know so maybe check with him.

my drivers side is cactus---need a new one----where do you get these from, without having to go through local dealer SHARKS, and what is the trick to removing them without breaking t6he tabs????????![]()
If its cactus anyway, it's not gonna matter if you break the plastic tabs on the back!
The clips that hold it on are metal (as I found out!), and are attached to the weld flanges on the vehicle.
The only thing bothering me is the fact I now have the edge of the windscreen exposed on the passenger side. Whilst I don't mind that, I just wonder how much water protection the plastic strip actually gives, if any at all? In fact, it now gives me more reason to think about fitting those limb risers I was thinking of...!!
If it's really just a cosmetic thing, I'd be happy to leave off and paint the newly exposed pillar paintwork in black just so it "looks right". Would also be better/easier when I have to have the windscreen replaced!
