    Auto going into limp home

I would appreciate it if the wise ones could educate me about this prior to my going to the auto repair shop or attempting a repair myself.

Ever since I replaced my auto with a reconditioned one from ZF I have had trouble with it sometimes going into limp home mode after shifting into reverse. Turn engine off ,wait few seconds and then start off again and problem solved till next time.

The problem seems mostly when shifting from neutral into reverse but this morning happened from park into reverse just to really annoy me.

The problem is slowly getting worse or I should say more frequent. I have noted that in the dash, the gear selection indicator does not indicate when in neutral since getting the replacement box. Of course by the time I woke up to the fact that there is a pattern here and the neutral indicator is not working it is out of warranty.

I am ignorant of the workings of a modern auto box but I am thinking that there must be a sensor on the shift link, probably where it goes into the auto box, that does not register properly and the auto computer is not getting the info about gear selection and spitting the dummy. Is this correct and if so is a change of the sensor an easy job or does the gearbox have to come out?

As said I would appreciate it if someone could wise me up about this prior to me making a complaint or trying to fix it. Thanks heaps.

Yes the flashing M&S and the box only goes in 2nd gear until you switch of and restart. What is the XYZ switch? easy to get at?

Also had the same problem had the switch replaced twice and it didn't solve it, ended up having to get a new gearbox harness.

    Thumbs up

    Hey Pedro

Not that i'm aware! the computer kept faulting the switch even after it was replaced, my mechanic said he'd only seen this once before so they changed the harness..problem solved.

While your looking at the switch check the drain hoses from the heater box.
They are on the inside of the tranmision hump.
One over the front tailshaft cardin joint and.....
I'm lead to believe one over the said switch

There is a thread on a fix for the drain hoses, maybe in projects and tuturials.
EDIT..Pedro The Swift had it in THE GOOD OIL
    discowhite's thread...http://www.aulro.com/afvb/technical-...drain-mod.html
