How do you know when you need new O2 Sensors?

Old sensors are usually dirty, so the 12V heater voltage leaks through to the sensor as it gets a bit of water condensing on it on first warm-up. This gives a false rich mixture. So a significant loss of power as the sensor first warms up is indicative of age. They are also slow to respond to mixture changes so can cause some surging.

Next the sensor fails completely to register the mixture, so always reads lean. Generally your economy goes to pot.

Sounds like as long as it is 4 wire it will work.
Has anyone actually installed and used these recently.

    I found on ebay:
    >NEW 4 Wire Universal Oxygen Sensor O2< Easy Fit Kit | eBay
    or
Universal 4 Wire O2 Sensor, Oxygen Lambda Hego NTK NGK | eBay

    Would this work?

Mate are the wires the same colours in LR AND AU/BA 4 wire? The AU ones on eBay are $40 odd new. Cheers

Ps I was going to cut off the the au plug and crimp on the last bit of wire and plug from my old Bosch d2 sensor so it still all LR in terms of plugs?

I didn't notice a colour variation. It took me only 1/2 hour, must have been the same. Anyway, the AU sensor heater wires are white, polarity unimportant, black is sensor output, grey is sensor earth. You can double check with RAVE as to what wire does what at the LR harness plug.

I suggest you acquire an AU harness plug, crimp/seal it to the old LR sensor wires, ie make an adaptor. This way both AU and LR sensors are plug-n-play.

Bee-utey mate these ones look to me like they might have both sides of the plug..

Can you please tell me whether you think i am right or not? If they have both sides it would be very sweet cause I might just then be able to strip the upstream wires and wire them directly into the plug?

    Cheers

You're an optimist, thinking they would supply a harness plug, never needed, gratis, without mentioning it!

    Sensor, used harness plug:

Thanks mate - I will grab the AU one off ebay and crimp up the wires just before the stock LR plug...what is the green wire for in your photo - is that for a different vehicle?

    Cheers
