I tried to think up a relevent thread title but I can't.
The scenario:
Driving around all weekend in low range manual having a ball at Levuka
Heading home on Sunday & I dropped the transfer to unlocked high range & hit the bitumen.
I got up to 60kph expecting the TC to lock up as usual & it didn't
It only locked up when I hit 80 & would stay locked up until I slowed down to under 60.
I checked the OBD2 readouts on my phone & there was no data coming from the MAF. bugger
Fortuneatly the drive home was mostly highway so I wasn't affected too much.
Anyhoo next afternoon I had to go out so I jumped in & lo & behold everything is working normally again
Went out again today & everything is still sweet.
MAF is OK & gear changes & TC lockup are functioning normally.
I was thinking maybe the computer got confused after the Low range stuff & needed a sleep to reset.
Just wondering what may have happened.
interesting...no sorry no idea

Could the ATF have been too hot after the low range action to allow TC lockup afterwards? Might need a fluid change? My auto has snappier/quicker changes when it's cooler so I'm looking to do a fluid change, as I've only had the disco a few weeks I don't know when it was last done so I'm doing it as a precautionary measure as well.
V8's lock up at 60
rattlers lock up at 80,,
you mention 60 so assuming V8
maybe lack of fluid--
sure the TC unlocked?

Thanks. I'll check the fluid level. Doesn't explain the crazy maf action though.
With your lpg system does it still use the MAF? On my lpg system that is all bypassed when running on lpg and only comes in on petrol. However I know your system isn't the same as mine.
The MAF when faulty does affect the auto operation and not only at lockup points but can also cause it to not change up into 4th from 3rd, just go neutral and then looost power and drive just like it's slipping. Happens more so under load.
Trust me chased that one for ages.
thanks all.
does a flty MAF still have an output of data or does it just stop completely?
Mine still had some output. But when it decided to randomly not work it would not sense any air entering so would cut fuel, but almost immediately go hey wait the o2 sensors are getting almost pure oxygen add fuel. So would start up a cycle, especially under load (up hill where you don't need it).
