Daisy's on the way to Oz.

We have made it to Sydney and are settling in, Daisy (TD5 D2) is due to arrive in mid October and I have been doing my homework. I have an import licence (the shippers would not have taken her without one). Her air con was drained, she was scrubbed inside and out and put in a container. As far as I can make out, the next phase goes like this:
    1. She arrives in Australia
    2. Customs inspect her and the paperwork, decide if she needs a steam clean and I pay up.
    3. Having already insured her, I take her to a pre booked blue slip inspection on her UK Plates.
    4. Once she passes, I go to an RTA office and get a plate
Question: how do I get a valuation figure, rebook.com.au doe not list the Disco 2.

What have I missed (apart from today's show at Castle Hills)!

Redbook does have D2's but its under Discovery so anything after 1998 should be a D2 in that category. For example a 99 D2
    Private Price Guide $8,100 - $10,200
    Trade In Price Guide $5,300 - $7,400.
Also i've heard that customs usually try and hit you up for decontamination fee's even if your vehicle is immaculate. I know a guy who spent 2 days meticulously cleaning his BMW motorcycle before returning it to Oz from Europe, customs still tried to charge him for cleaning it at this end until he insisted on meeting them to inspect the bike. It seems that the person who makes the call has not even seen the bike or car.
    Cheers

Make sure that you're there for the unpacking & inspection. I know it sounds silly but dress smart for the meeting too. Those guys look at lots of cars and when it's faceless, it is very easy to just state that it needs cleaning... It covers their arse!

If you're there, it adds that personal touch and shows that you care (and have cared for) this vehicle. You can also reassure them that you understand why it has to be clean and that you have personally see to it that it has been cleaned.

This was re-inforced for me when I went out to NZ and the inspector there basically paraphrased what I've just stated above. Had I not been there for the NZ inspection, they would have simply orderd a complete re-clean & destruction of the winch wire. My presence meant that they didn't order the re-clean & would let me keep the wire as long as it was cleaned.

Remember, these guys love paperwork, process, procedure, etc... If you have paperwork & receipts for the cleaning, etc... Show them.

For my inspection to get into Oz, I made a point of having a set of photos showing the cleaning process. I, had it waxoyled black so that it looked like new underneath, bought brand new recovery gear, left it in the original packaging and made a point of showing the chap, doing the inspection, the new gear.

It sailed through the inspection without requiring any additional work.
