    fuel filter protection

    Hi everyone,

I am bit concerned about how exposed the fuel filter and sensor is on my 01 TD5.

Has any one made a protective cover before and are they able to post pics and describe the process?

    Cheers, Chris

I came accross a picture of one with a cover over it the other day. Was perhaps a Defender though. I'll watch this thread with interest.

A cover is real easy and cheap....its a stubby cooler.

You aslo wont likely ever need it.

BTW did you end up sorting your suspect dusted motor?

    cheers

WTF? I would assume by 'protective' he would be after something more substantial than putting a bit of neoprene material around the filter...

Protection from sticks and stones is the main issue I assume. In which case a stubby cooler would work quite well.

I used to run a glass bowl filter down on the chassis. I did more of less the same to protect the glass bowl, except I used a few layers of rubber cable tied in place. (sort of defeated the purpose of the glass bowl - so swapped it for metal...).

    O. The unit I saw in a picture was actually like a full guard cover. So not just something that slips over, but rather it was fixed to the vehicles body or chasis or something else. I came across it when I was looking for info on the sediment sensor, but can't find it now...

Mate of mine did end up damaging his on the CSR, luckily had a replacement with him. He put a stubby holder on his and never had another problem. Cheap and simple solutions are often the best I reckon.

Still researching. Having Chaffy hooked up to read the codes this Thursday. Hopefully it might shed some more light as apart from the blow buy Chaffy appears to be fully healthy with no other symptons.

Top End Rover Specialists think it could be an injector issue so hopefully we might find out later this week.

    Cheers, Chris

The simple things are usually the best...., but if someone feels better about strapping a lump of steel etc then go for it. You have to be confident in the equipment not the opinions of others.

This thread threw up a few ideas not so long ago.

I was outbid on a Defender fuel filter guard on ebay a while back but there's no link to the auction anymore. The photo in the listing showed the item clearly and I could see it wouldn't have been too hard to fab a bracket to make it fit the Disco.

I'll try and find the part no. tomorrow and post back.

I'll also add this job to the (never-ending) list of stuff to do to the Disco...one day.
