Had the same issue, after changing the switch twice it turned out to be the harness. Theres another thread about this relating around the switch. Hope your fix is cheaper than mine was.![]()
Hey guys,
Just came back from Fraser island and had a bit of trouble with the D2 going into limp home after going through lots of water.. I kept clearing the fault in the gear box using my new nanocom which came in handy it was saying it was the selector switch...
Now I have had the xyz switch off previously and "water proofed" could it be the wiring loom that is giving me the problem now? The selector switch is fine now after drying off just wondering if anyone else has had this problem?
Cheers

The xyz switch is a touchy thing and can often cause "limp home mode" for no apparent reason. The problem I had with mine ended up being an a/c drain draining directly on to the top of the switch. A short rubber extension tube to the drain fixed this problem.
Meanwhile a very talented mechanic (who had so far changed the "faulty" xyz switch for the third time without looking for a cause - I can't find the icon for sarcasm) told me to run the gear selector lever through the gears a couple of times whilst the vehicle was stationary and in doing so help to clear any dirt/grit/water etc. that could affect the contact through this switch. Surprisingly this did tend to help, and sufficed until we looked closer and found the above-mentioned cause.
Have fun
Regards

How annoying I have changed the a/c water drain yrs ago its not that now... It's running perfect now can't seem to replicate the problem with the garden hose... I can see this is going to be a real teaser of a problem....Originally Posted by zulu Delta 534

Another xyz switch bites the dust
How much should I be paying for a new XYZ switch ?
Turned on the D2 this morning the famous s and m lights greet me once again this time i can't clear the code it keeps coming back. Also it won't register at all now when I move the gear stick up and down like crazy... I would say the selector switch has had it... Though I wonder could it be something else
Any thoughts

You normally dont need to replace the harness as i had this happen to my old D2, there is a metal "P" clip that sits atop the transfer case to hold the loom. The wring runs in an aluminium sheath & where it passes through the "P" clip it can rub & cause a wire or 2 to short (as mine did) it is just a matter of removing the loom (about hlaf an hour job) & resolder the 2 wires, reinsulate the wiring & adjust the "P" clip , refit, clear codes & test.
I had replaced the XYZ switch, Auto ECU & was contemplating a gearbox.
But just through sheer coincidence was under the vehicle & noticed the loom was cut & thought better investigate. Once repaired never had the problem again.

Cheers.
I was checking it out just now tried to re clean the contacts on the XYZ switch but now only D,3,2,1 comes up not P, R, N so its most likly the switch...
Did you see an obvious cut in the sheeting around the cable or did you only notice it when u took off the loom that there were cables damaged?
