G'day --
Any idea if it’s possible to get a broken crankshaft bolt out of the end of the td5 crankshaft??
Unfortunately I broke off the bolt in the crank while tightening up the front pulley. I suspect I’m toast and will need another crankshaft…
I can't imagine its going to be possible to drill it out given how far its in and the metal its made from.
thanks!
Bryan.

That bolt SHOULD'NT be that tight now that it has broken, from factory they have no loctite, and once the head of the bolt has broken away and the tension has been released the thread should be released and should be easy to undo.

yep, a good left hand drill is a good start....
where at?

A left handed drill ?
I have made one.
Done by using a small width cold chisel and then grinding the blade tip and side edge to the angles required to cut and grab in a left handed operation.
But this is not my idea, if you want, look up the style of bits used before high speed twist bits came along.
I just grab one out of my easy out kit, conveniently sized to take the easy out that follows when the drill bit doesnt get it...

Thanks very much for your replies.
As JUSTINC said the bolt turned out not to be tight at all. I could not believe it! I would have thought it would have been so tight I'd never get it out, however the end of the bolt was completely loose. I could see it wobble when I touched it with the screw driver.
Following other instructions I squirted in some wd40 and let is sit for a few days (as I was not able to get back to this until just now), then..
I was even fortunate then with how the bolt broke as it was not even across the break. So I put the bolt back into the hole and pushed as I unwound it and the broken off part unwound along with the part I was turning.
When I reached the end of the thread I put some blue-tac on the end of my useless magnetic probe thing and pulled it out.
Thanks again for your help and replies.
Next time I think I'm going to borrow a higher reading torque wrench (rather than use and extension on my own torque wrench and apply the math) and I need to do some reading on how to correctly do up a "yield bolt" which apparently is what this bolt is and why is only a single use.
I think I had reached the required torque and went past the yield point so the torque required to turn it dropped as the bolt yielded...and then broke.
Bryan.
I sell sets of LH twist drills, 1/16" to 1/2" in a steel index box. If anyone has need PM me.
