    Facia and binnacle switches

I would like to install switches into the unused switch blanks for turning on/off my driving lights and a rear flood light. I have a base model 2004 Disco so I have 3 blanks in the facia switches in the centre of the dash (where the HDC and Hazard switches are) and two binnacle switch blanks on the left hand side (below the front and rear fog light switches). Does anyone know where one can get latching switches to go into those locations and also how to install them? Has anyone done this? I’ve looked on some websites but am not sure which switch is appropriate.

I had a LR switch installed under the fog lamp switch for my driving lights from the auto elec at clovelly so its certainly possible to source the parts.

Just be careful which switches you get - some of the stock switches are push on psh off, and some are momentary on only. You'd need some sort of latching device to turn your driving lights on and off in that case.

Have a look at this thread, there's some switch info in there -

I have just done this. You need a cruise control switch as that is latching. Then get an Aux light switch and use the cover off that to go on the CC switch. A bit of mucking around to sort the wiring and your done. If your not confident with the wiring part get the switches and get an Auto Electrician to do it for you.

Thanks for advice. I've bought a couple of latching switches. Do you know what amperage these switches will tolerate? My driving lights go through a relay so that will be ok but my rear light doesn't but only draws about half an amp. Don't want to install a relay unless I have to.

The Heated Seats on a DII and post-2002 Defender are switched directly by these switches.

I've never measured the current draw of the heated seats, but judging by the circuit's fuse rating, the gauge of the cable and the type and size of the connectors and terminals used, I estimate that they probably draw no more than 5 Amps for each seat.

Looking at the the contacts inside the switches...

...they look 'man enough' for 5 Amps, which is more than sufficient for the current drawn by a 55 Watt lamp, so your 'half an Amp' rear light should be no problem.
